Hi

i was wondering if you guys could help me with my tuning options
for the volvo 340 1.7

cams
carbs
etc

as for carbs i thouht a weber 32/36 might be good jetted for 1.8 golf
not sure if it would fit thought

also the clutch on my car is dead is it easy to change? its a 5speed manual

power wise i am looking for 130hp with out turbo charging nor engine swapping

Hi Will,

130BHP is a to ask from the 1.7 lump. You will need a cam from either catcams or get one reprofiled.
You would be best to swap the manifold for a twin webber set up. No one makes one at the moment so this would have to be made as a one off. On the other end you will need to change the exhaust. The std manifold will not cope well with this power so should be changed for a 440 B18U one. The rest of the system would need to be made as a 2 or 2.5" system I can get these made no problems.

The easy way to get that power would be to simply bolt in the B20F. It quite easy to do. Have a search through some of my posts. I think I have explained what parts need to be swapped.

is the manifold a bolt on fit?

and would the weber 32/36 fit on the standard carb manifold its just i found a cheap 1 on ebay france (carb)

also engine swapping will be a bit hard at the mo becouse my garage isnt finished its not build in other word (french workers )


last is my clutch is worn out i was wondering if changing it ment taking the gearbox off and stuff or worse the engine then i might as well change the engine.

manifold is bolt on fit. If you dont mind waiting a while I'll be removing mine complete with the down pipe made to fit.

Don't know about the carb. You would need to offer it up but almost anything can be made to fit.
I dumped a injection throttle body on mine as I run GPL only.

When I have done my clutch I have always taken the engine out as the bolts tend to be too tight to undo in position.
I did remove the bell housing once with the engine in. I had to remove the mounts and lift the engine right forward to get the bell housing off. I'd have been quicker just to pulled it out.

Take that engine out and put in a 400 series engine.

The non turbo B18EP with 109hp stock, or the Turbo B18FT

The B20F is 120 BHP the smae as the 1.7 turbo. Its a lot simpler to fit and keeps to a na engine.

yep, definately not advisable to start tuning with the stock setup.

PS change your brakes first.



if you do start tuning the stock engine you might end up spending a lot of cash on another model stock engine


the B20F might be taken apart, balanced, weighed out, polished (pushrods mainly) and the head ported and flowed.

next step camshaft, fuel management, etc... then you're getting somewhere.

On the subject of brakes all I have done with mine is replace almost every thing with new std parts.

New drums, shoes, flexi pipes,discs,pads,calipers and new copper pipes where needed. It now stops realy well.

Bad news guys my car got nickrd by some fuking french asshole

i found a VOLVO 340 GLT REDLINE its a english guys car and he wants 10euros for it.........so i bought it 1 or 2 probs clutch is nakerd and small hole in exhaust, it has test, 25euros of petrol new batery and no rust including a nice interior

all i can say is NICE!!!

is the redline a special edition?
and it seams to have bodykit-but not sure yet

car was appently stolen by a 31 year old italien and he crased the car into a tree at high speed he was drunk, the car still worked so he decided to continue to drive it harshly then into a river (he was still in car)
there where apparently lots of witnesses but worst of all the police want to put me in prison becouse the guy drowend in my car
i have seen the report thats the only way i know this

France is wierd but i should win this case as i have witneses

Interesting logic from the French police there

The redline is a special edition, but there's not much to it beyond a 'GLT' front lip spoiler, a 'GLT' front grille, and red trim on the seats and bumpers.

alls ok as i had my witnesses of my car, and the family of the guy that stole it didnt roll up to the police station,

so they were fined and i was aloud to walk away FREE!

my new old car should be rolling up somtime next week if not ill have to try and tow it back with a renault 5
