Your opinion on this car site please

Post by 340cbr »

Me and a friend are creating a cars website.

Our intention is to have as most car specs as possible, we already have more than 1500, includind volvo 300 series :D

And not only to have a lot of specs but to have correct specifications with official values, what does not happen in many sites with the same subject...

Apart from the specifications we have other subjects like gallery, blueprints, boards, pitbabes photos...

The site is oppened for almost a month now and it isn's going very bad.

Although, we would like to have your opinnion on it. Other people opinnions are very important to us :)

What do you like most and less in the site? What can we improve?

The link for the site is www.ultimatespecs.com

Looks good.

I never knew the 340, ever came with a 2.0 litre engine, you learn something everyday lol

Also, could figures be in metric and imperial. 61kw means nothing to me, 82 hp does.

Also I thought the 1.7 had more than 82 hp, but seems it had between 70 and 82 or so depending on the age.

The early 360's were still called 340's.

Also early 340 1.7's had a single choke carb! not many ppl know that. Also there is a power difference between the solex and weber carbed 1.7's

the Redline always seemed to have more uumph than other 1.7's that I have driven or been driven in , and Pete always said how pokey he thought it was .

I don't know whether that was just down to the weber conversion or because it had relatively low mileage ( 97,000 which is about 6,000 a year ) when I got it and had always been maticulously maintained , serviced at least twice a year even when well below the recommended mileage and the previous owner always used top quality materials and oils.

Hmm. 80 ish just sounds a low number.

I know this sounds stupid, but when I get to drive the 850 (170ish HP) it doesn't really feel much more powerful, although this is grandad driving, always under 3k revs. In fact I had a fright when overtaking with it, I thought it'd pull a lot harder :?

Teehee... under 3k RPM...

850's weigh craploads, there was a stripped out T5 estate at a Volvo meet and it still weighed 1400kg+ IIRC

+ when I drive it, it's nearly always to or from uni, so there's a load of uni weight + 2 parents, although when I did that overtake it was just me and dad, and there was basically nothing in the boot.

Maybe the 1.7's just more torquey low in the revs. And it's much quicker revving (lighter flywheel/moving parts?)

The webber gives about 5bhp more when new. Tbh putting the webber conversion is going to imp[rove things a lot more now as a old worn solex is going to be down on power etc. You will still get very good results just by rebuilding your existing carb. Dont shell out a few hunder quid on a webber for the power as it is a uneconomical mod.

BTW well doen MJ over the 1000 posts mile stone.

I used to have a Weber in my 340, don't like it... probably because it was old.

The best carb that I had in the 340 was a carb from a 440 GL. That one really pulls very well. o to 100km/h in 11.5 seconds

About the site, one question.

The site is having arround 200 visits per day, but the boards doesn't go forward. People do not participate in it.

In your opinion.... why?

PS: It would be great if you guys, help us to make UK people to know about the site

850 gives power only when you rev it, that is what I have heard, also suspension setup, sound dampening etc. makes all feel go away, of course it is really fat too and fwd which means that you really can't feel anything what is going on, but very comfy to travel longer distances and easy to control too.

Yes, the site in question. I would like to see weight distribution / corner weights, camber, caster KPI data, spring rates, damper rates etc. Some inertia data would be nice too, braking performance data, gear ratios, rev limit of engine if there is any, suspension motion ratios, steering wheel turns from lock to lock, wheels turning angle etc.

Now all this that I'm asking is really really hard to find from internet, would be great if you could find and put some of these to site too. If you can find those values I can guarantee that you will be number one site on the net after that.

Also real test data from different tires would be really nice, slip curves and other grip data measured.

But I'm afraid this is something I will never see, this information is perhaps too hard to get hands on
