A weekend in Leuven (aka operation 66 pt2)

As you may or may not know pt2 of the 'Let the Germans have a RHD 66' operation occured last weekend with Foggers, Petters, Carders, Farrers and Chalkers (Spainters not being able to make it due to an attack of Brumminess!!) heading off to Belgium with a 360, a 245 and a trailer with a 66 on it. The plan was to meet Benni halfway between the Uk and Deutschland so Leuven was selected to be the rendevous. This also meant we could meet up with Aymat and partake of his hospitality.

On arrival in Leuven and having handed the 66 over to Benni

Having waved goodbye to Benni we headed into town to partake of refreshment at one of the many bars and restaurants.

Leuven Town Hall at night...

..and another building (maybe Aymat can enlighten us?)

After a beer or two and a meal it was time to head to the Hotel for the night.

The following day was spent adjusting tappets on Aymats' vario before an explore of Leuven in daylight. The architechture is fantastic and you'll note that the town hall is covered in hundreds of statues of significant people in Leuvens' history.

The pavement cafe we had lunch at is the far right one - they even had patio heaters under the awning!

After lunch we headed off to see 'Old Leuven', i.e. the original town centre..

...and then onto the University...

...where to our suprise the ducks were quacking in English!

Time for more food and beer and then back to the Hotel

The room (we had two rooms before anyone asks!!!)

Monday morn saw us shopping for chocolates before heading for home. Unfortunately some bad driving on the part of the Belgians had closed the autoroute so a diversion via Oostende and an hour delay meant we were unable to stock up on booze at a French Hypermarket in Calais. Industrial action saw the ferry delayed by 40min on the return too!!

So, what did we learn? Well;

1, Leuven is a beautiful city.
2, The Belgians are incapable of making a beer (aside form Stella) that is below 9% in alcohol
3, Foggy never carries any money.
4, Andy and his blowtorch are inseperable.
5, Farrell is to be remnamed 'RandyFarrell'.
6, Chris can't get up in the morning.
7, Sat-Nav is crap!
8, Farrel secretly wants to be David Bailey (he used about 2gb of memory!!)
9, I am perfect.

The usual suspects

LOL, well Chris was safely in his sleeping bag cocoon at opposite ends of the bed to me! He was considering heading to breakfast before it finished in the said sleeping bag coccon, however was lured from his nest by the food.

Great trip people, thank you very much indeed. Was really good to get away, despite finishing work at 12:30 on the morning of leaving, to leave home at 4am to get to Andy's!

I have quite a few pics to add to the thread at some point, however I will also produce a little video when I get time of the trip.
