the welding on the front panel above the radiator where it meets the wing isn't that major ,

its not structural , the redline went through two mot's with gaping holes at on end and hardly any more metal at the other end ,

I cut a new piece to weld in from the redline I scrapped but never fitted it
because the car passed the mot as it was .

Think it was Dai who had one a while ago, but its the entire panel, and has to be welded onto both the wings, that sounds like a major job that could screw the job up more than it fixes to me (especially if you get a 'special' welder...)

Hmmm, another one that needs thought... why couldn't they just galvenise the damn things.

Those spots look to be genuine Volvo accessories - if so he'd be wise to split them out

I wasn't referring to that, I was referring to the fact that "there was fairly extensive welding undertaken to the sills for the last MOT".

I know it's been fixed, but still, you don't know how well it was done, or if it was fully wax oiled...

You finally looking at a car to actually use then MJ? I'd be tempted to look at that GLT in derby..., although I do like the look of that GL as it stands

Nothing wrong with welding, to be fair mate if it has actually been welded, it SHOULD be solid!!

Yeah as Adam says, don't let a non original car with some welding put you off. If it's been done well and then some anti rust treatment carried out, it should last well and be nice and solid.

at the end of the day , the welding it had done was good enough to get it through the mot which is what really matters,

I'm not sure I like the positioning of the fir extinguisher though !!!!

yeah, trouble is with welding is it can be patched up well enough to get you through the MOT, but not done properly and so rusts again in a year's time.

My car was welded up to pass the MOT and because it wasn't done properly, it started new rust round every spot where the welder was applied :(
