ive fairly recently taken the rear interior panel out from inside the boot.... I had noticed that water was collecting underneath the trim and could see a rusty patch..... fearing the worse( a big hole ) i took it out and luckily i have reached the problem before it gets too serious....
The water is collecting in the area circled marked A.... anyone had this problem before / know where its coming from?
Had origionally thought that the water was getting in to the car in between the inner and outer arches where it is slightly corroded ... could see light outside in between the inner + outer arch so sealed it up as u can see in the pic but the water still collects there?
Also what is the pipe (labelled B)... it comes down from the roof(ish) of the car and then just stops so whatever it is supposed to be draining just gets deposited in the arch???
the pipe is indeed the drainage hose from the sunroof. Its possible its drainage from that that's collecting there, but I would go for the water channels in the tailgate itself and also the seal.
I'd try the lights and the seals around them, as they can get water collecting in them too in serious cases. In theory the boot seal should keep some of it out. Are there any bungs missing in the bootlid or do they seem loose, as as the water drains out, or collects, it might drip from there? Is it always parked in a similar place at home, as that can have a bearing on how water collects. Through my own experience, park a 300 facing up hill is the best way to prevent water collecting if you can!

I've been trying to think if the light panel would allow any water entering there to get to that section. My memory is playing tricks on me at the moment, as it might drop away under the lights. Either way, worth a check. I know I had one fish pond in an indicator lense once. I noticed it when the water level reached the bulb and it stopped it working once. GOt out and saw the water line gently rocking. I did the ghetto fix of drill a small hole in the bottom of the lense to release the water and stop it collecting, as at the time I had absolutely no time to properly look at it!
It might be worth checking if the headlining is damp below the hinges too after it's rained. I take it neither of you have a parcel shelf in place, being dofrifty cars!? As IIRC the hinges might allow a small amount of moisutre into that area. I know James has experienced serious rust there on Nessy, resulting in the hinge parting company with the car! That may allow water in, with no shelf to catch it, soaking into the boot carpet, and then keeping the floor damp.

Likely possibiliy is the rear screen having been replaced and the bonding being naff, I'm sure thats what has happened with Kar's one, the inside of the tailgate fills with water, and doesn't drain as it should, all around the lock has rusted away. No water ever gets into my boot though, so that might not help
Not a bad thought Chris about the rear screen, but it appears to happen on them all if they stand for too long, so I don't think it's that. It's really annoying. I've not had any leak into the boot yet, thankfully, but as you say, if it's not sitting centrally level or getting enough use for it to drain by the lock where the central dain hole is....... it's gonna sit and rust. I did wonder if cars with spoilers suffered more due to the holes in there. My vario without spoiler doesn't seem to fill up much, if at all and has sat outside all it's life with no sign of rust, plus it has had the rear screen replaced, twice, and badly!

Nah, not true Pete. Fake sat doing nothing for three years, and was fine when I opened it up. Kar if you opened after it had been raining you had to open the boot slowly else you and the contents of the boot had the equiv of a pint poured on you!
Hmm, from my experience that's how it's been. I seem to remember Fake was parked in a bit of a sheltered gap, and pretty level, so it could just drain straight out, or didn't get in there in the first place. Two cars that it happens to, I can be 99% sure the rear screen has never been replaced. It is a PITA having it pour out though, as if pours out straight into the boot!

Mine leaked here, it was due to a rotten rear panel behind the bumper,it allows water in threough the inside of the lights, no matter if there well sealed or not, only way to truly stop it is to replace rear panel!!

Boot seal around lock area is where water goes in at my car, there was some deforming I recall and so seal does not sit too well, really weird how it comes from here as water should go upwards
Well, now my car resembles more like rain forest, water dropping inside of roof, windows, everywhere, we just had around -10C and got snow, now it is +3C and snow tries very hard to turn into a water making interior surfaces to condensate, also there grows stuff so can't really check where exactly those leaks did came, memory is having holes again...
Yes I've got a leak. Sit in the car when it rains and observe...
I have 2 traces.
1. Near LHS wiring around seal - mastic I think has failed
2. Near the light cluster - there is a split in the rubber
I have tried adjusting the boot latch with no luck.
One of the rear floorpans has a damp patch.
The door has been slammed against an object and the polythene plastic has parted from its mastic.
I have now gone round and checked all doors.
Well, this is my red g reg I bought for £50. All part of good maintenance. Fortunately no rust has crept inside. Only have to weld the back of the sill to get through the MOT.

Few days ago I did open trunk and I'm pretty sure there was water inside the lid, when I lifted it up from both lower corners there came quite a bit of water that dropped to light clusters, then some water into boot.
Spare tire is perhaps in an aquarium, have not dared to look and there is too much junk in trunk anyway.
I guess that new seal and adjusting the lock might do something.
