Frogs may join ?

Post by hakan »

Hello,

I'm Hakan (a nick name off course) live in Boulogne, right across, a kind of next door foreign neighbour.
I'm currently driving 1980 265 estate Volvo, Engine type B28 E milleage in the region of 300 000 miles. :D
I'm considering the purchase of a 363 B19 A engine.
I have no knowledge of the 300's, hence my registration.
I'm heading straight away to the appropriate section of your forum to post a topic about this car.

Hi and welcome. You've come to the right place at V3M! If you're looking to buy a 300, you want one with the least amount of rust possible, unless you can weld! Rust is their main enemy, the mechanical parts are either cheap enough second hand, or sometimes new (if you're lucky!), or it doesn't go wrong often, or it's easily fixed!

Check for rust under the front valance, and if you can have a look under the car, near the rear wheels and petrol tank you'll see where the chassis rails run from front to back there is a cross rail, near this join where the three pieces meet either side it can rust there. Worth checking. The tops of the doors under the windows can rust, but that's more cosmetic, as is the bottom corners of the front doors about 50 mm in from both edges.

Either way, if it's not structural, then it's not the end of the world, but if there's little sign of rust you;ve got a good one, get it waxoyled or dinitrolled to prolong it's life! If it's very rusty, you'll be chasing it with welding, and orevention is always better than cure!

Sounds like your 265 has had some use! The good old buses keep on going!

Much better than words! From that angle, it looks a minter! No rust on teh leading edge of the bonnet, arches, or around the windscreen or front valance lip, on the GLT's, it's hidden under a plastic trim, which can hide the sins. Where the door shut is, just a tad towards the front is a mark, possibly rust on a join in the sill, I have no idea where the join is on a 3 door, on a 5 door it's where the rear door is still level before the rear arch curve, and can be vulnerable to rust.

Looks clean, and a 3 door! BTW, what's the blue thing just on the corner of the front bumper? Something from image editting? Looks too crisp and square to be anything else!

It'a sticker, the "E.U" flag..... God knows for what reason the poor old little thing stuck that sticker there ! to conceal a scratch in the paint work ?

Looks super clean! What's that light thing on the rear quarter above the wheel arch, some marker required in France?

Can't see any rust, so go for it! I've no idea what sort of price a 300 commands in France, as I did see a crashed Mk3 on Ebay, that looked expensive for what it was! Over here they have reached low prices unless it's very special!

Not at all , that "thing" is going to end there : sm42
It's a rubber protector which came on double sticky tape back in the 80's to protect the rear from your car park neigbour rear doors when his kids send them banging into your car. there was another one on the other side of the car, there still glue stuck on the paint work

asking price : £500

Good news, I'll shop for second hand parts in England then !

Ahhh right, so I'd suggest as a replacement an evil glaring look daring anyone to even park near you, let alone denting your car with their door. It's something I hate and I've become an expert at warding off potential denters!

That accessory doesn't look big enough to do any good, and it's too high IMO, it'd be ok for doors like 300's where the rear has a higher point that sticks further out due to the arch. It's almost asking someone kindly, if you're going to open your door onto my car, please park correctly so you hit this small target buffer here with the door! It needs to be a long strip! I think it would have killed the looks, but on the later Mk3's I think the door strips needed to be only just below the door crease line, that would stop so many dents.

Yeah, England would be the place for parts then! Could even come along to a V3M meet and make a weekend of it!

£500 isn't bad really, for a clean tidy car, just find out what the vibration is! Never hurts to haggle, especially if there's a cause for concern, or an EU flag!

Hi every one,

Last I was around, I was kinda shopping for advices because I was wondering whether I should go for it and buy this 360 Mk3 (I take it you refer to Mk3 on your side of the Channel)
she is apparently called 363 over here.
Well, there we are.... I've bought the car......... for a girlfriend of mine. :D
We should go and collect it in a week or so.
Browsing through this forum is gathered that a sticker is (was ?)available...... do I qualify for one ?
Would an oversea shippement be possible ? and at what cost ?
Cheers Hakan and Loriane
Jumping straight away to the "parts wanted" section to place an add because a side window is missing.
