Speedometer popping & jittering

I have finally found a super-looking second hand speedometer to replace the dodgy one in my 360 and it has about the right mileage, too. However, beauty is only skin deep in this case because when I drive the car the speedometer needle doesn't move smoothly, in fact it jumps and jitters about. I can also hear a faint popping sound as it jumps at low speed. I think this speedo is from a car that has been laid up for some time, probably several years. My car had a new speedometer cable earlier this year so that is very unlikely to be the cause.

Is the speedo likely to improve with driving the car??

I suppose its anyone's guess, but somebody might know...

Cheers, bogbasic.

Speedo wobble is a bit of a characteristic I'm afraid. Its a combination of slightly off centre magnets in the speedo itself, the cable not being 100% straight at the back and umpteen other factors.

I used to have speedo wobble at 60mph, more of a vibration really. I then had to dismantle the speedo to fix the mileometer. I must have moved something because the wobbly area changed to between 20 and 25.
