story:

chap bought farm and buildings at an auction (previous owner had passed away ) without looking round fully.

After buying the place and moving in they found one large barn that they could not get in , doors welded from inside (shown in photo) .

When they finally found a way in this is what they found.......Big fun !

Thats very true. All of them will probably need resprays and all mechanicals stripped down and reconditioned/replaced.

If that was me (and I really wish it was) I'd pick a few I'd want to save, then give then rest a quick tidy up and sell them on ebay or something and put the money towards getting the remaining ones uptogether. Although TBH, I didn't really recognise a lot of those, I'm not too hot on older cars, but I think I'd keep the Lotus Seven, Europa and Elan, at least one Mini, the Pug 504 Cab, the TR4 and the Datsun.

I've heard a similar story some years ago, not quite such a goldmine in terms of quantity, but special none the less! I hope I've remembered it correctly, I wasn't very old when I was told about it. Until tonight I'd completely forgotten all about it!

Someone came to be the owner of a building, I believe it was left to them by a relative. The building seemed roomy and large from the outside, but oddly inside it seemed drastically smaller! Upon measuring the buidling it was found that it was indeed a lot smaller inside than out! A wall had been built to encapsulate a Rolls Royce Siver Ghost, preserved in all its glory, sealed off from the real world.

What a find! I'd love to know more about the story, and how true it is! There are so many other things I think I can remember, but it might be my mind playing tricks!

There are still thankfully people with the foresight to see that we need to preserve cars, otherwise they'll all grow old and decay at the same rate! By preserving them in such a way, they can live on a little longer!

On Ebay I've seen some pretty rare items, somehow they've escaped daily life and the wear and tear and weathering. What about the items that don't reach such a wide marketplace. For instance my incredibly low mileage Vario nearly ended up being scrapped, as the garage who wrecked it didn't care about it and didn't respect how valuable it was to the right peron or group! By pure fate I came to hear about it, meaning a car that had been in a timewarp could be appreciated!

It would be interesting to find out just how long they have been left like that ,
I am guessing the youngest car there ic the 205 peugeot , some of them look almost immaculate like the lotus 7 and the hillman imp californian ,

where would you start ?

I guess you would have to seperate the restorable from the scrappers , have a bloody good clear out and sell as much of the usable parts from the scrappers as you could to fund the restorations and give you an income,

decide what you don't want of the better cars and get a specialist auctioneer in ,

if the guy has any brains , he would never have to work again .

that is my idea of heaven ( even though there isn't a golf in sight lol)

The closest I have ever heard of this happenned to a friend of my wifes family ,

He was a bike nut and sold his Harley when his wife became pregnant,
when the baby was four and things had settled down he started looking for a cheap bike to do up ,

He was told , quite by chance , of a Harley that some old guy had and had never got around to restoring.Hw had got it from Germany and It was a bit of a basket case , stripped down engine , bits missing , front forks removed , usual sort of thing

The old guy only wanted £150.00 for it as it was no good to him and despite his wifes concerns he bought it ,

He was stripping the frame down to get it powder coated and came to remove the saddle ,
he turned the saddle over and nearly had a heart attack when he saw a plaque screwed to the bottom of the saddle reading

a present to my good friend ELVIS from JAMES DEAN ,

on checking with Harley Davidson it turned out that this bike had been specially ordered by James Dean for Elvis Presley .

the company sent specialists over to confirm the bike was genuine and struck a deal with the guy for I believe £100,000 and a brand new Harley of his choice , they even flew his family out to Milwaukee for a tour of the factory and to make the presentation ,

the restored bike is now part of the Harley Davidson collection

And they say magic does not exists!

Any car is possible to restore, look how they build those cars from 30's to original glory, some of those are so rare that it sure is more than worth the trouble.

I've heard of the Harley story, a very special moment indeed! It makes you wonder how many things like that are lost. Ifs and buts, different circumstances and it may have been lost forever!
