Volvo's new 16 valve engine for 343 gives you full 231hp (170kW) in stock (can be trimmed for more) It's built on thick-walled B19 block which is bored 96mm which gives displacement of 2315cm^3
Cylinder head has two over head camshafts with 4 valves per cylinder. Angle between valves is designed to give maximum fill? (Direct translation, I don't know the english word, but it means the amount of fuel-air mixture in the cylinder) and high compression durability.
Intake and exhaust ports give very good flow through the head (same type as used in F1 engines). Intake valves are 34,5mm and exhaust valves are 31,5mm, stem diameter is 7mm.
Camshafts have 12mm lift and double valve springs, valve mechanism is light and good up to 9000rpm.
Extra light con rods are tennifer treated and bolts are stretch type to ensure maximum endurance.
Pistons are forged with reliefs for valves. Pistons are lighter and shorter than stock pistons and also piston pins are lightened.
Pistong rings are lighter and lower than stock rings to ensure endurance under very high RPM. Flywheel is also lightened.
