Howdy, on my '86 360GLT there is a brake distrubution valve under the bonnet, down low on the left wheel arch, that is supposed to limit the amount of pressure sent to the rear wheels under heavy braking, mine leaks, so i replaced it with one from a wrecker, which also leaks, i can get a refund on it, but only in the form of credit at the wreckers, and he has no more 360s to take them from, does anyone know if any other volvos used the same part? 240 maybe?

Ohh i knew they had those things but i dont think any one noticed it in uk maybe uk ones didnt have it?

also its a very rare thing on other cars etc and yes it stops rear wheels locking up..intheory.

maybe other people can lock 360 rear wheels becouse the valve leaks.

Hello, where does it leak from? Is it the joints with the brake pipes? If so maybe its the pipes and joints that need replacing. Local spares shop can make them up for you for a few pounds each. Cheers, bogbasic.

Nope the leak is from the valve itself, i've been under the car whilst someone is in it pushing hard on the brakes and you can see it weeping from the back of the valve, well the first one weeped, alot, this one squirts, but only a little.

Where exactly is it leaking from? I remembered it being a solid casting. A thread perhaps? Maybe some (PTFE) thread tape is in order?

I'm sure I will have a spare one about. I would think postage costs would make it very expensive though.

Yeah, i think so too.

I'll get a pic of the old valve to show where iot is leaking from, definately not a thread.

Leaking from inside the circle, new one actually squirts a bit of fuild when the brake is pressed hard, then doesn't leak, the old one (pictured) leaked constantly when the brake was pressed.



So no one knows if any other old volvos used these? 240s?

Not exactly - it just makes sure that the fronts lock BEFORE the backs

And doesn't do a very good job of it at that, my car has always locked the rear first, normally the drivers side one, then the other, before the fronts go.

What do you have at front?

With standard front pads got that too as fronts did fade so quickly but with pads meant for hard driving/track use I have had no such troubles.

you can buy adjustable ones for rally cars such as mk2 escorts advertised in magazines like "fast Ford". Probably cheaper than a new volvo part.

Something i have considered doing, just got to find one, and they are illegal on road cars here in aus...

Well i have been making do with topping up the fluid every few weeks, but today i found a massive puddle of brake fluid under the car, so it looks like it's time for a replacement of some description, i'll keep you guys posted...
