Hello!
Finding Volvo 340 in good condition is mission impossible for me... so I found (in order to buy it) Volvo 240 with automatic transmission and non rust body and I would like to made swapping transmissions (hand is hand afterall... ) from automatic to manual M46/7 or M50 from 700 series... (not me but my mehanic )
Is it possible to do something like that and what do I have to have before starting a project...?
I'm asking here first so my mehanic don't laugh to me when I come with silly ideas...

it can be done but there is alot to do you need clutch pedal manual brake pedal might need new tail sharft to fit manual might be longer or shorter
Hope that helps
Yes pedals will be story for itselfs.
In Banzai magazine I saw project in which they swap engine and transmission and pedals were some kind of problem to adjust...
In 200 series gearbox is positioned in back of the car (like Alfa romeo 75) or in front by the engine like most of RWD cars:?:

It means your going to have to take an angle grinder to your car followed by a lot of welding - big job and very probably not worth it unless your going for big power (and questionable even then)

you mean if I only want to swap gearboxes it is not worth it?
if it is that way, than better to leave automatic gearbox and drive like car want or wait another car with manual gearbox...
better knowin' that before is too late...

Ronnie....I think you may have got the wrong end of the stick. He just wants to swap from an auto to a manual on his 240, which can be done using bolt-in parts, as far as I'm aware. Helpfully on 200s, the pedalbox area is a bolt-in panel. On 700s, there's a blanking plate over the clutch cylinder hole on automatics.
Here's what I think you need...
Flywheel
Clutch
M46 / M47
Propshaft
Pedalbox and clutch arrangement
