Richard Aucock, you are a ........

I don't see any decent reasoning behind the 300 being in that list. The advert was actually bloody clever and very different, and only one 340 was used AFAIK, as Kev Devine had a picture of it when it was on display in a dealership I think.

Nothing is mentioned about anything else other than the advert, what a clown! Bet he's never been near one.

And first in the top ten worst motoring column writers......... Richard Aucock!

And Mick, the Golf won't be in the list. it appears as though he drives one! Surely that's got one of the worst interiors from a build quality point of view of a car from the 80's in my experience, rattles and squeaks enough to drive you mad!

How you make a judgement about a car purly on a ad I do not know.

However having recently looked at a std 340 1.4 I can confirm the drive is crap! Just like many other cars of teh time - slow very unresponsive steering and wollowy suspension.

A totaly different drive from Vickys sorted 1.7!!

I don't understand why are all those cars the worst one ?
I see ford orion here, looking like it got hit by truck and still going on.

That jetta looks like Opel omega or kadet with long boot. I see them every day on our streets, even know few people who own them and keep them running cos, repairs are cheap .

For Lancia i know it's a piece of s*** cos it's crowded with electronic. One thing goes and you better buy new car, than repair it.

What's wrong with alfa romeo 33 1.7 T.spark ? Speed, accurate, works on Italian way ( not like clockwork, but so ). Ok parts are expensive ( like in every alfa ) and design could be done a bit better.
Don't tell me that alfa started it's "gold carrier" with alfa 75 V6 3.0 T.spark ?

Here ford Orion is kept mostly by Chinese people, filled to the roof by goods, clothes, chinese families...bla,bla... and no matter boot is nearly hitting the road at the back because of weight, they do not want to sell it.

Peugeot 309 ? Oh well, i can say it's a miss. Even it comfortable like every French car, design is very ugly.

Ah yes, and for Volvo 300 series. I will post a pic of my dad's crash in tractor at ~80 km/h as soon as i scan it.
1.4 is design to be the weakest Volvo 300 and it's not made for high speeds. Motor is weak and design for cruse. Slow, durable family car that get you anywhere in sometime ( 1.7 and 2.0 get you in no-time :) )
It has all the security ( you all know design is the same for all 300 series, apart from motor and interior that can vary ) like any 300.
I'm not saying this cos i own one, it's because the unknown criteria he used to rate all of those cars as "the worst of 80's " category.

For other cars i can not say anything since i haven't seen them and wasn't driven in them.

Uh, i tired myself by writing this. I'm sorry for long post, you probably got bored by reading it.

Cheers
Ivan

Hahaha what a chump.. "it wasn’t even nice to drive" since when supercars are supposed to be "nice" to drive? That guy would probably bash group-b rally cars because those aren't "nice" to drive..

You can tell who is the real driver and who's not if someone wants comfort and easy driving from a supercar etc.. What a nancy.

Every one of those cars featured is a future classic. Didn't we all think Cortinas, Allegros & Princesses were crap? Maybe they were, then along comes "Life on Mars" and prices go through the roof. The more uncool a car was in its day, the more interesting it becomes later.

Countach & DeLorean: no comment needed
340/360: who else offered a RWD small hatch all the way into 1991?
Maestro: the first car which talked back
Stellar: just look at all that chrome!
Vauxhall Astra: will be the first of the "windtunnel classics" along with the Sierra & Audi 100 :-)
309: fantastic 80s hot hatch in GTI spec.

You heard it from me first: in the next series of Life on Mars (coming out in 2017 based on 1983) Philip Glenister will be driving a booted Vauxhall Nova.

Poor sod could only find a picture of an MG Maestro... hmmm... MG Maestro. I love people that write stuff like that, I love 50% of cars on that list, just gonna make them less popular with the muppet brigade, and make them nice and cheap for me to buy!

these peopele dont care about practical/afordable cars or reliablity

i like the mg maistro too  i thought i was the only 1

50%easily liked cars there by me.

how the f### do they get away with this stuff there are many worse cars than these and i know lada and talbot are atleast worse than the 340

and maistros arent ugly they only got better with the wide arches and wheels and body kit they put on to make them more apeling to younger market ..which apperntly didnt work. <i like it.

Can someone find this test-dummy advert and put it on you-tube?

And IvanS, yes scan the photo of the crashed 300-series.

We didn't see a lot of any of those cars here in Australia, in fact I would only be sure the volvo 360 and alfa 33 made it here at all, neither being very common.

Yeah I've been looking for that advert but can't find it anywhere. I vaguely remember it from my youth, or possibly Tarrant on tv more recently. It has to be out there somewhere! Oh, and the one with the 850 across the canyon on rails was a good one too.

Will scan or take a photo of it.
