B230FB
I have access to a tidy 91/92 B230FB - that's the 'hot' tune version of the B230F found primarily in 940s. There's 160k miles on it. Car runs nicely, and the engine looks tidy - it's not a leaky old nail. It makes about 131bhp in standard trim, and is set up to use the LH 2.4 management which responds well to alterations in hardware spec. The management system (i.e. wiring loom) is most easily pulled from a late 240 (with a B230F). ECUs probably supplied - everything else comes from the 240.
Price...£75? Can deliver at cost, within reason.
cheers

Reckon you could get it to leeds? I'll be down there picking up a fiat x1/9 from a mate's house in the next few weeks so if you could drop it off I could arrange for the cash to be there for ya. Cost me well under 40quid petrol last time i drove from leeds to lincoln and back, and i was gunning it the whole way. Gimme a shout if you can sort summat out, either PM or just on here.

Sounds like a plan is coming together...however the engine is provisionally already sold...
I also have a B230K for sale - very similar engine, but carb. A bit less peak power, but similar torque. I need them both gone.
cheers
James

Do you specifically NOT want the B230K? There's nowt wrong with it besides not having a 531 head, and needing the exhaust studs (stumps?) replacing...but you can kill two birds with one stone by swapping heads. It had only done 90k, whereas the FB is on 160k.
In terms of performance, there's not a great deal in it. The B230s don't rev well without intake and exhaust alterations anyway, so you're not giving away a huge amount with the reduced peak power output, and you're still gaining a good amount of low-down torque.
If it was being collected (i.e. by Matt), I'd probably knock a few quid off just to get it gone!
cheers

I thought Pete was getting the K?
If not I'll have it, though I was after injection so I could run aftermarket management. Having said that, carbs mean less wiring, and that's a good thing from my perspective. I think Matt wants a door or three, so if some crazy petrol money sharing scheme were to take place, you could have that bonnet off me 340 in PX. After I've checked it's rust free in the morning.
P.s.
How many PSI before one of these blows up?
And when you say exhaust studs replacing, you mean they're knackered and I'd need a full set from somewhere?

I have an engine for Pete too...I've got B200Es coming out of my ears, too...but no-one wants them
It's a skinny rod motor, and high compresson (10+:1?), so the possibilities are limited...however...with accurate tuning, you should be able to safely make more power than the drivetrain can handle. I think 300bhp is the record before the owner chickened out and stuck a 'big rod' bottom end in. You'll easily make over 250.
The manifold isn't going anywhere...but...the exhaust studs are corroded to the point that a) you'd not be able to use them again if you removed the manifold, and b) getting them off might be interesting. I've been soaking them with WD from time to time, so fingers crossed they'll come out, especially if you get busy with the blowtorch where they go into the head prior to cracking them off. Otherwise, I may well have a 2.3 turbo head from a '96 940 available in due course.
I like your 'somewhere'
I have no idea if they can be sourced from there, but they'll not break the bank from the stealership even. Exhaust studs are exhaust studs, as long as they're the right size.
cheers

Aye, it's high RPM that kills rods, so low down torque appears to be the game with these b230s. Carb turbo motors are supposed to be hard to tune, but all I'd probably be doing is upping the boost a little. I can see me needing a cheap runabout car while the GLT's off the road giving me engine swap headches

I'm willing to bet that 99% of rod failures on Tbricks are due to stupidity, not weakness of design. Detonation is by far the biggest cause of engine failure on a turbo motor, so just make sure you tune it to perfection. Personally, I'd flog the carb (fits most carb 240s and 740s), then stick the 360 injection gear on it....and run it on Megasquirt or LH2.4.
Anyway, we can have a natter about all that. Having said that, Matt is coming for this 360 on Saturday, so we better hurry up about it!
cheers
James
