drivers side leccy window not worky. how do i fix this?

I'll be looking at fixing the same problem soon. Passenger's side with me, but same door as you (LHD).

Use the passenger side???

Lets start with the basics... does it move at all? Slowly? Make noises? Glass fall out onto road? No worky covers way too many options here dude...

Basic diagnostics, check fuse, check that there is electricity coming to switch and to motor, test motor. If it works ok to this point, then it is time to check mechanical parts, perhaps something is jammed.

Grab copy of Haynes book, there is most of basics covered and it helps you greatly to fix problems and how to remove door panel for example.

Yes, that is very correct and relevant reference tool, until you have done 4 spanker jobs, after that you realise that most of jobs described on book was actually as they say, only mechanic had just bit little amount of experience

No, it will just fix symptoms of rattling motor, eventually cotton wool will catch fire as motor is overheating

I've had 3 switches fail on my car so far in the year i've had it, so swap the switches over to see if the problem is with them or with the window.

cotton wool is magical material. but i dont think its gona work in this case.

the window does nothing at all when i press the switch. ive tried swapping the connections over to the other switch but it still does nothing.

i'll have to take the panel off when i get a chance sometime.

Ok, no movement, any sound? The rubber could have jumps out of the track, but more likely is a dodgy connection or knackered motor. Get the panel off, and multimeter on the plug, see if voltage is coming through.

LOL at the Haynes stuff Dave! So very very true, I hardly bother to even look at it now as it is so misleading or annoying.

If you've got the headlights on and press the button do the dash lights and headlights dim? The window motors are the favourite replacements if a window won't work, or the switch can be dodgy.

You do have multimeter, don't you? Use that to check if there is electricity coming to motor. If there is then most likely it is motor failure.

If you don't have multimeter, go and buy one, it is impossible to own 300 and not to have multimeter, it would be same as being ManU fan and cheering for Liverpool...

Also grab copy of Haynes book while you are grabbing multimeter if you have 20 or so to spare, I guess that should be more than enough for those two items
