Oh well what is happening when you open and close the door?

I'm sure the hinges are welded on, so it might just be the pins or it might be the check strap?

Let me know once your sure as I can get hold of the parts.

Cheers

The bottom of the door is hitting the sill, you have to lift the door and shut at the same time.
Has already worn the paint off almost back to the metal on the top of the sill.

So i guess the best thing to do is to remove the pins and check for wear? you can actually wobble the door up and down...

If it's the hinge do you think i'd get away with spacing it with a few washers?

Thanks for the help btw 8)

Yes, I definately think its the pins then. Would just replace them as oppose to putting washers anywhere!!

You can try and knocking them out but it can be a bit tricky at times..

Let me know how you get on and if you need me to get you some pins..

and.. your welcome!!

Cheers

Part number 3140643, 70 pence each from Volvo :D

[edit]That's the part number for a five door, may be different for a three door.[/edit]

VADIS refers to them as 'tensioners', we'd call them hinge pins. Much easier to replace with the special tool, but it seems that the Draper one that is widely available doesn't come with the correct attachment.

Here's a good recent thread on door hinge pin removal:

70p from Volvo? Wow, after being charged 4,50 Euros (about 3 pounds) for a wheel nut I'm pleasantly surprised :-)

To be honest...you'll probably not manage this job without the special tool...

cheers

It's not always straightforward with the special tool

I needed a bigger hammer to get the top hinge pin out with Mac's Volvo tool. The bottom one is even trickier as you have to knock it upwards and the hammer has to be hefted between the door and the sill. I don't want to dent either of those.

Will try soaking the hinge again before setting about it for a second time with the 2.5 pound club hammer.
