Goodbye old friend...

All of you out there who have known me for the last few years understand how much my Samson means to me (Mrk 2 340GL 1.4 b Reg to those of you who dont...) but after many years of coaxing him through MOTs and the like the time has come for his retirement to a nice peaceful scrap yard

. Too many problems and too much rust in vital places for any other option.
He will be going very soon and I will salvage as many important bits as I can (for use on the 1.7 etc..) so if anyone needs anything it may be worth getting in touch. Sorry for the short notice and if you miss this post before he goes I apologise but its always worth mentioning these things!
I have kept him going for as long as I can - please don't guilt me into trying keep him on the road - far too emotional as well as limited space, resources, skills etc this end!
Heres to the last 10+ years Samson

Thats a shame mate, but I would say he has had a good run and a good owner, most people don't care that much about their cars but I know how you must feel.

Sorry to here that Gemma, you have given him more than his fair amount of attention over the last few years though, prolly is time to let Samson go!
Hows the 1.7 doing?

thats such a shame Gemma , dont feel guilty , theres many that would have given up with him years ago, every good thing has to come to an end sooner or later , With Samson it was certainly later rather than sooner

Thanks guys - I appreciate that. I (as have we all) have had the 'scrap that crappy car' comments for many years but always said when the day came it would be my decision not one that I was bullied into!
The 1.7 - from here on known as Frank - is ok, he has a ceised engine though which hopefully we will get sorted soon with the help of the lovely Adam. Its such a shame as that engine has only done around 82000 miles. Thats the way it goes though...

Sometimes it's time to let go and give in to the fact that spending the time and money just isn't going to be productive and that you're chasing your tail! It did well though and good work for keeping it going so long, as others have said, too many other people in the throw away society we live in today would have scrapped it and many other 300's long ago.

it's always sad when a car has to go, but it sounds like it's reached his time. At least some parts will live on with Frank.

Exactly - we can concentrate on Frank now and make him as good as we can, he is worth spending time and money on. It is sad to see Samson go - almost as bad as when I scrapped my first car, plus the fact he is a mark 2 and a special edition at that, but 'thems the brakes'...

Gemma....how do you feel about the idea of parting Samson out, rather than letting him go to the scrap yard? I don't know what you're planning to do, but we have access to a trailer, a tow car, a storage unit, and some large axle stands....see where I'm going with this? Understood if you'd rather he just went in one piece.
Free parts for all if we can weigh the shell in? I feel a 240 roadtrip coming on...
cheers
James

There comes a time when even a good faithful horse needs taken out behind the barn and quietly shot
James' idea is good - let Samson live on in other 300's!
All the best
