Latest parts victim

Post by foggyjames »

I think this is the first genuinely serious one I've found: 360 water pump.

Time to put my register keeper hat on, and send a letter to Sweden...

cheers

Yeah, I tried to get the same about 3-4 weeks ago.... absolute joke, I've had to buy a pattern part.

EDIT: 360 PAS downpipe is another pretty serious one tbh...

Few weeks ago i found out that you can't get that antiroll-bar link system (that with balljoints in both ends) to right side anymore. Also you can't get a genuine engine heater system.

I've not confirmed this myself yet, but one guy at this finnish Volvo forum said that rubber strut top mounts are not available anymore. I bought two few months ago so if those are not available anymore, they have been pulled off quite lately..

I alsos had some not so long ago. If they have been dropped then I can see my solid mounts becoming more popular.

Why did you go to Volvo for a water pump?

Aleks was told that front wheel bearing kits were unavailible a few weeks ago, I don't know if mk2's are different, but I've had 2 of these in the last 8months... and need another 2. I've got some econo bearings, but I really don't want to use them. Guess I'll have to try to buy some and see.

The Volvo pumps supposedly have a cast impeller in place of a pressed one...which isn't prone to falling apart at random. Might be unimportant, I don't know...

This whole subject really makes my blood boil. I wouldn't mind so much if it was Kia we were talking about, or Hyundai, or a 19.99 DVD player, but this is a manufacturer who puts its vehicles' longevity at the centre of its advertising campaigns. I actually find it offensive when the guy at the parts desk tells me some regular service item is no longer available when all around me people are running around in "Volvo for life" T-shirts.

I'll be needing a new water pump soon too, can anyone recommend any makes? As far as I can tell, GK, Triscan, SKF, and Quinton Hazell ones are still available for the B200.

The originals are made in England, if that helps identify the OE manufacturer. SKF make the good wheel bearings, so perhaps they're the preferred option from that list?

Are the other B2x0-series pumps still available or are those under the same part number? It would be kinda weird if they wouldn't have any redblock pumps anymore. I think 300-series pump is lower than on bigger Volvos, but the pump from a bigger Volvo fits also.

200/700/900-series pumps for example.

200/700/900-series viscous fan won't fit so I don't know if there are differencies in the belt wheel and dimension of the pump and does the 300-series viscous bolt on or even fit with the 200/700/900-series pump, but the pump itself fits, at least without the viscous fan and you can always fit an e-fan.

I would be pretty peed off if it was Hyundai mines only 6 years old .

mind you the parts for the 2.7 v6 engine aleady take longer to get than the more common 2.0 litre parts .

Volvo along with VW are still better than most manufacturers .
Citroen for example have completely deleted the BX from there computer system at the stealership ,

thank god for the likes of gsf and euro car parts

I suppose at the end of the day a car is considered to generally be a disposable item and its only through the commitment and hard work of enthusiasts like ourselves that any older models survive

Yes, the 2/7/900 series WP is different....and since the last of those cars was made in 1998, we should still have plenty of availability there.

The Volvo bearings are marked up as SKF so SKF ones should be fine.
