I won the auction for a 3dr 340 last night, just before midnight. When I rang the seller this evening, he said someone had already been to collect it!

Obviously the second place bidder has pretended to be me and picked it up while I wasn't looking. It was cash on collection so I haven't lost any money, but I'm extremely f**king annoyed.

Apparently the fraudulent buyer's ebay ID is 'jabbits', but that's probably just been set up for the purposes of ripping people off. However, I do know that he lives in Stanley near Durham, and I do have his phone number.

How I wish I'd given him the £150 he wanted to end the auction early.

Hold the phone!!

I rang the fellow concerned and he was most apologetic, said he bid on it 6 seconds before the end (where I waited until 4), saw the screen saying "congratulations, you're the high bidder", switched the computer off and went to bed.
Long story short I have the car now. It's a dog but it'll do for tearing about until it snaps in half.

It's sad that we have no trust in today's world, we're so used to being ripped off that we jump to the worst conclusion immediately.

this still sounds kind of wierd ,
how did he get the sellers address to collect the car if he wasn't the winning bidder and therefore didnt get an invoice with contact details .

unless of course the sellers phone number was on the listing

If a winning bidder contacts me by email or phone ( if my numbers on the listing ) I always ask him to tell me my address to prove he's genuine and has received the invoice.

I think in this instance the seller was as much to blame as the other guy

Everyone involved was dodgy looking, the whole affair was rather suspect. I gather the 'buyer' used 'contact seller' or some other ebay button.

Unless the buyer was a mate of the seller, bought it, then decided he didn't like it.

Same one at the moment mate, we were hoping to move to a smaller one in Washington, but ours now has 12(!) cars in so we can't unless we downsize.
