Gearbox/diff swap

Post by ajdubas »

OK, haven't been on in a while, but I have a question... I may've asked it before but I don't think I have.

My 340 is a 1.4 4 speed Mk2

is the gearbox an M45 or M47? How could I find out? What's the difference?

assuming it is an M45, would it then be a straight swap with a 5 speed M47 with diff (pref the 3.82 off a 1.4)?

M45/7 is look at the gearknob, think last time I was in your car I noticed it was an M45. There's a 1.7 box and diff in the back of Fake atm, wanna come round and offer it up?

The 5 speed boxes are longer, so i presume the torque tube woiuld have to be shorter and you would need it also?

I'd like to do this swap too... I gather you'll need a 5 speed box and a 5 speed prop

Are the spines on early cars different? I've got some props with coars spines but they could be off 66's. If the early cars do have coarse splines then the bell housing will also need changing

Hmmm, bellhousing is an interesting one. If anyone (guessing Steve/Aleks) wants a bellhousing just in case, I'll be chucking my dead 1.4 over xmas, so do either of you want it just ot make sure?
