Post by sx sam »

Hello people :D

Im new here, my 200sx s14a is off being rebuilt and im looking for a 340 1.7 or 2.0 to run around in!

Im looking at spending around £250, not sure how much they go for, if this is to low or to high can someone advise me on how much to spend! Not looking for anything mint, just something that will last a few months and not cost to much!

Im in the Manchester area!

If anyones got anything can they let me know please.

Thanks alot, Sam

Welcome.... You'll get a usable example for that I'd imagine, theres a few on ebay at the moment. 5 doors seem to go for less money. A 2.0 will be a 360.

Hi,

340 is either the 1,400cc or 1,700cc engine, whilst the 360 has the full fat 2,000cc jobbie. Prices are somewhat variable at the moment [pre-Christmas madness creeping in] - but £250 should get you a reasonable car with MOT and tax, but at this price there will be some rust somewhere.

Having said this you may have to wait for a car to come up for sale near you, as these things are at least 20 years old now, so not that common. If you are after a rear wheel drive smoker for a few months, you may be better opting for a Sierra as they are more readily available. The Volvo is the nicer car in my opinion though.....

Volvo v. Sierra

Yeah, i'd guess a Sierra at £250 would be an ex taxi with a zillion miles on. The Volvo is also more comfortable. My 340 cost £200 with 12 months MOT and has done me for around 8,000 miles - all I've had to do is change the exhaust and the plugs / dizzy cap. Insurance fully comp was £100, and that as a second car with zero no claims.

On eBay at the moment prices have jumped up, and as a result we're seeing some optimistic reserve prices creeping in. They may fall in January when things settle down, but for now your best bet is the local paper or free ads. Auto Trader is a dead loss.

But if you do find a good one, and if the price rises are going to hold, then you may actually make money out of the Volvo, which would be nice! Certainly depreciation is not going to be an issue now is it?

Good luck,

Phil
