Did see that when it was first listed. Looks like another one comanding good money.

Has it run out of steam at £460 though? Or given the number of bidders are we going to see a last minute run up to some high numbers? Certainly I'd rather pay for a car that has been used and serviced, than a low mileage one that has just kind of sat around.

Given that 90% of bids happen in the last ten minutes, my personal view is that this one may well run up to over £750...... We may yet be surprised!

Only caveat here is the "rust bubbles" that the seller has mentioned. One man's bubble is another's restoration project! Buyer beware? It looks nice, but we have seen nicer examples go for less money.

Bit of a damp squib in the end, but £475 is still pretty good - especially for the dealer who would otherwise have just sold it on for £50 through the trade. Wonder if the buyer gets a 12 months warranty that they advertise?

I'm guessing that with rising fuel prices and a credit squeeze coming up, these relatively low mileage cars will find buyers as depreciation is not an issue. £475 is less than 2 months repayments on a £10,000 car after all. I like the 300 series, but have yet to be convinced that they are classics - they were slated when they were new, and unless in tip top condition they do look bloomin ugly. Their reliability and willingness to trudge through all weathers whilst keeping you warm means that they do worm their way into your heart though..... Bless!

The thing about the ugliness is more of a learn to love it but the 300 series is indeed an ugly car when looking directly at it from the front or back but i think the side profile is not bad.

Also I believe the next volvo classic is definately going to be the 480 series their is something unique about them.

stick some spotlights on and the front looks pretty cool imo

I was perhaps a bit harsh with ugly... some of the lowly 340's in the wrong paint schemes and narrow rims are, it must be said, truly horrid looking cars. Mine especially. Two doors in the right paint, clean and with period alloys from the front 3/4 are pretty good. And, oddly, I think the saloons in a gold look very retro cool.

The 480? I can remember trying to keep up with one on the A55 on my Suzuki GS550. Couldn't. But could you live with the electric maladies?

I do "diss" the 300 a bit, but I like the way it kind of breaks down slowly so you can ponder the repair, the manner in which it keeps on going in adverse weather [to this day, and I've run new 4x4's as the main car, my DAF 66 estate variomatic was the best car for snow work], and that bloomin heater I adore!
