Non 300: My 850 T5 (sorry)

I know it's not a 300, so I apologise, but I would like to sell my 850 as I don't really have a need for it any more. And if I do sell it, it probably means that I'll be keeping Fioner a bit longer so it will benefit a 360...

Copied straight from another forum:

I'm currently considering selling my 850 T5. I'd always fancied trying one, and in August I was after a cheap car to take on holiday and couldn't resist it when my Dad's friend was selling his!! It did around a 1000 trouble free miles in a week, but since then, apart from a couple of weekends away, I rarely have a need to use it so am just seeing if anyone else was interested.

It's a 1993 850 Turbo T5 Estate. It's done 172k miles, but still drives really well, and pulls hard. It's got MoT till the end June 2008 and tax till March 2008 (I think). It isn't quite fully loaded, but you do get e/w, e/m, e/s/r, PAS, adjustable height steering column, heated mirrors, heated seats (although drivers doesnt seem to work) and an integral rear child seat. Since I've had it I've done the following jobs:
Oil/filter change
Replaced handbrake shoes
Fitted 1 new front tyre
Fitted original Volvo front strut brace
Replaced rear lights with some non-frosted ones
Fixed boost gauge
Fitted 2 new front drop links

It drives fantastically and is pretty quick thanks to having 225bhp on tap (certainly quicker than it looks!). Being an early model it also has the 'reverse flow intercooler' which is regarded as being better than the later designed setup. It has it's issues though - the 2 main ones being the ECU light comes on every now and again and throws up a Lambda sensor error. The car still drives fine and once reset the light will stay off for ages before coming on again. I believe that sometime last year it had a replacement lambda sensor, but was an aftermarket part which apparently the ECU doesn't like. A replacement Bosch part is £72 which would hopefully cure it. However I've got a 2nd hand sensor which I was going to fit to see if it helped, but haven't got round to it yet. Also the bite point on the clutch is quite high so I reckon that'll need changing sometime soon, but it's never caused me a problem (shifts fine and no slippage) so I haven't worried about it.

Oh, and it has a stainless steel exhaust which is quite loud, and also a removable tow bar.

Basically, a quick, comfortable, practical car that can also be a bit mental!!!

I've got it up on the Volvo Owners Club forum for £800, but if someone on here wants it then they can have it for £700. Would also consider a swap/part ex for something reliable and TD powered.

Give me a shout if you want any more info!

Cheers

That looks lovely. Good luck with the sale.

It really is amazing how much car can be bought for so little money!

What kind of mpg were you getting out of that beastie?

Errr not much TBH. On the longs runs I've done it get up to 30+mpg, but I've mostly been doing town driving and A road blats recently and the average is now down to about 26mpg I think.

If I didn't have the SD1 I'd probably keep it as it's a seriously nice car and I think you'd be hard pressed to get more bhp/£!!! But I've got my sensible hat on at the moment, and the proceeds from the sale of this could be used elsewhere.

I am seriously tempted...

It's a manual right? Any sign of engine wear?

Yeah it's a manual. Hardly any signs of engine wear at all. You would never guess it's done 172k miles as it runs perfectly and still pulls very well - see the YouTube vid for evidence of this!

But as you would expect at this age and price it's not perfect - I've told you about the 2 main problems but there are a few niggly issues that I haven't got round to doing. All pretty minor though, and certainly have no bearing on how the car runs and drives!

A guy on the VOC site has offered me £1k if I replace the clutch and Lambda sensor - if necessary I'll do this but I'd rather sell the car how it is TBH to save my own time and hassle. However, I have said he can have first refusal in whatever state I decide to sell it in.

If you want any more info give me a shout!!

Hi Carl, how goes? I've still got those bits to send to you......

Anyway, I may well be interested in the 850...... if you've still got it in a week or two I'll probably take it mate. I expect it'll get snapped up before then though. Anyone else has priority, use me as a backup plan!

Pete, you bought a Probe? You NEED this T5 :)

Seriously though, would you be willing to buy it for £700 as is? If so I'll need to speak to this VOC dude first, but if he doesn't want it at that price it's yours, as I've had no other definate interest.

A PROBE.Is'nt that something the doctor shoves up ya *@se.Or maybe it should just be launched into space. Not to explore but to get to URANUS.
Any which way, there both attracted to s**t........And if any probe landed on a populated planet, how much of a laugh would a higher being have if it examined a Ford Probe.

What hope have we.....................?

Lol, aren't ford probes something you hope never happens to you in life. Much like inheriting a house full of cats from someone you never knew which requires critical building maintenance!
