340 Diesel - Springs, Tranny, Brakes Vacuum Pump

Hello. I own a 1988 Volvo 340 Diesel. I'm new to the forum, and allready I have some questions... :D

1. Does Diesel has the same front springs as a petrol version? Unfortunatelly left front spring broke on my little Volvo...

2. In cold weather my car shifts really hard. I know I can solve this by changing oil in transmision for synthetic one. There's a related problem though: 2nd gear is perticularry hard to get into (most used I guess). Would changing the oil in tranny also save (or at least help a bit) this problem?

3. Power brakes vacuum pump is gone on my diesel. Common problem as I hear. Does any other make / model of the pump fits instead of it (original in Slovenia was around 400 € last time I checked, and used of 340 Diesel is almost imposible to get)

I have to say I'm very pleased with my car, although I don't know why everybody is passing me all the time.. :D

The front springs are different but I would imagine 1.7 or 360 GLT springs would work ok - you will need two.

Changing the oil in the box will help but it may not solve the problem. Often gear selection is due to adjustment in the linkage.

As to the vacuum pump im not sure but soem renaults may be the same.
