I know its not 300 parts, but a lot of the parts could be put to great use on 300's, so heres a copy of my VOC post but with some added detail for you 300 guys.

Due to the differential expiring on my 460 1.9 TD last night i've decided to break this, as i can't warrant the time needed to fix it.

All bits available, bar gearbox of course which is screwed. Postage available on small items, but larger items collection only.

Engine has 190k on it, I have owned this car since 35k and have changed the oil&filter on it religously at 5k intervals. New Clutch at 165k I fitted a new cambelt and tensioner 3 months ago. £150, may sell Injector pump separtly on its own.
Engine runs as sweet as a diesel can be, makes 1 bar of boost solidly all day long, when my 740turbo exploded on the eve of a dyno day it was booked on, i took this instead for fun and it made 96BHP dyno sheet available.

This would be an ideal donor engine for someone wanting to make a 300 series TD!!!!!! You could have all the parts needed to convert a 1.7 340 into a Derv Burner. I can supply any purchaser with scans of the simple electrical system the engine needs and tell them how to wire it up. Just hook up a fuel supply and return to the tank and fill with derv and off you go.

Brand new exhaust from cat back fitted for only a 1000miles. Will also include a straight through decat pipe. £75 fits 440's and 460's

All brake calipers are in excellent nick, including the dreaded rear ones which usually have seized handbrake arms. £15 per caliper. If you want fronts to do coversions you can have discs and pads as well for free.

4 15inch 5 spoke Alloy wheels with full matching set of Yokohama tyres, Rears have plenty of tread depth6-8mm, fronts would have about 4mm above wear bars. £100 Again these fit a treat on 300 series. The same style as Foggy has on his 360

4 15inch spoke Alloy wheels with 3 tyres having tread and one illegal £50 These are simular in style but have an extra slit in the spoke

2 15inch Spare Steel wheels with decent tyres £10 each. Get 2 more and you've got 15inch wheels sleeper style. Or good spare rims for drifitng or drag racing.

All lights available £5 per light

Interior is all cloth and both heated seats work perfectly unlike all my other volvos i've ever owned. (I will seriously miss these seats on cold days) Matching Door cards included £25 the lot.

Rare Plastic Boot liner perfect for keeping boot clean or if your transporting messy loads. has small crack in it, but its a struggle to install it in the boot in first place. £20

Body panels are a Dark Blue in colour, there is also a boot spoiler with brake light fitted.

If you can think of any other parts you want please let me know, its all gotta go and i'll have to do it quickly as havent got the driveway space to keep it for long.

Good effort thinking of having ago on the swap mate, I was going to do it instead of the turbo petrol as well as to my 1.7, but at the moment it doesn't fit with what I want!.

Chesh, let me have a look at the finances, but I'm tempted for the slit 5 spokes (Pictors). If someone else comes along, take them, but if they don't sell, give me a shout.

It'd be rude not to try it. Can the injector pump on these handle veg? I'm thinking upped boost and eco-friendly fuel.

There are several different versions, Shimon can tell you the 3(I think) different ones, and I'd imagine Chesh would have a clue too! I think it's only the pumps that differ.

two pumps on these, Bosch and Lucas CAV. Lucas is a no no with veg oil and the bosch can cope with 5% biodiesel but direct contact with bosch would help on this.

biggest problem with veg oil is the lack of lubricity for the pumps, lack of detergents for injectors etc.

To answer a few questions

I am located in Bedford, for those people wondering how far they may have to travel to collect the unpostable parts.

Shimon, as for the green books, no i won't be selling them as i can never say never that i won't dip back into 400 diesels at some point. Once i sort my scanner out i will scan the relevant pages you need and email them. With any luck i may get that done tonight.

THe interior is mainly grey plastic, but the seats and parts of door cards are blue with a bizzare pattern. Pics to follow soon of bits and bobs.

Regarding the 300TD conversion some points i can forsee to do the conversion.

Best to start with a 1.7 car for the obvious reason it has the correct bellhousing, also it will have engine mounts for bolting the engine into place, and many other renault engine specific parts.

I would imagine you can use the flywheel and clutch thats allready on the TD engine straight away with no problems.

Perhaps those that have done 1.8 turbo swaps can confirm, but you'd may need to swap over the sump to clear the crossmember.

Wiring up the engine is very easy. The ECU has about 10 wires in all. Most wouldnt need touching as the harness is pretty much standalone. All you would have to do is give the ECU a switched 12v feed which you'll probably have available allready in the engine bay, and then rig up a switched feed to glow plug light somewhere if you were particularly bothered and connect the earth side of it to the ecu wiring.

Fuel wise, drain tank of petrol. Take the feed from the tank to the manual priming pump. Then run a return from the injector pump back to the tank.
Not sure if 340's have a return, i'm sure they do. Whilst doing initial testing you could run from just a jerry can. ( i did this whilst diagnosing a fault once)

Hook up an accelerator cable, fairly simple.

Water Cooling connections will be just to use a mixture of 340/400 series pipes.

You could just run the turbo straight to the intake without using the intercooler, but you could allways put a front mounted intercooler in somewhere and just extend pipes as needed. The 400 intercooler is tiny and lives where the foglight should be.

Then all that would be left to do would be to make up and exhaust downpipe.

Can't really think off anything else that the conversion needs, if i had a decent 1.7 donor 300 to do the conversion on i would do it myself, i've toyed with the idea plenty of times, just never been able to justify buying the donor td lump or buying a 340 to do it to.

You'd need the sump as one of the front engine mounts goes onto it, alternator bracket too.

Clutch pressure plate you'd use the 400TD, but with a 300 1.7 friction plate as the splines are different.

I'd actually be seriously tempted by this conversion, but it's come at totally the wrong time. I'd imagine a 300TD would give a GLT a run for it's money whilst halving your fuel cost!!

If the 400 Lucas pumps are similar to the one in our 205 then the extra viscosity of the veg oil can snap the pump shaft, so is not recommended. However I know a previous owner of the car had used veg oil a fair bit and it's still going at the moment!

Is the viscosity such a problem if you bung a little white spirit in with the veg oil? I know that you should only use bosch pumps for such conversions really, from what people seem to be saying on other boards.

No idea TBH, didn't feel like taking the risk

However on the 205 the fuel filter housing also acts as a fuel heater (it sits on the thermostat housing) which, I would have thought, helps matters. Apparently the Lucas pumps actually work better than the Bosch one's if you put a proper heater in for the fuel. If it's the same for the 400 Lucas pump it shouldnt be too hard to incorprate one anyway whilst doing a 300 TD conversion.

Having driven my parents 460 1.9 TD, it'd be slower off the mark, but has the torque and once the Turbo is in action would probably beat a 360, I'd imagine the 360 is a bit lighter without a few safety devices introduced for the newer 400 range, so would probably be a fair bit quicker in the ligher car.

The 460 is a bit of a let down really, supposedly the replacement, thus an improvement on the 300, but cheap, rattly interior and a cramped driving postion doesn't do it for me. They rust well too!

I think the enigne swap would be a good one to do, economical but quickish too! Not one for me anymore, I was once tempted by this route.

Oh on the debate of which is quicker in acceleration.

I can tell thee that the 460TD is faster than a 360GLT.
Weight wise there roughly about the same at about 1100kg if i recall correctly.

Back In 2000, we took the 460TD and my mates 1989 360GLT to santapod and ran them against each other for fun, doing multiple driver changes with each vehicle to see who could extract the best.

The 460 won each time, the biggest complaint with it was having to change gear constantly as it was getting through the gears to quickly.
