i want to replace the stereo in my Volvo 360 GLE, anyone got any pointers as to the best way to go about this? And also, does the 360 (1989) only have 2 front speakers?

Forgive me if my questions are a bit noobish! I only picked up the car yesterday, loving it though!!

if its the c3001 (no FM) pull the tuning and volume knobs off then un bolt the nuts behind them and the face should come off maybe pull the eject mutton off too. then you should see two metal prong things holding the unit in, lever them out and it'll slide out. the wires and arial just pull out.

for the other radios like vc608 you'll need a pair of removal tools or just make them out of thickish wire. sort of U shaped. insert into the pair of holes at either end of the unit and it'll 'click' when the 'security' tabs are free allowing it to slide out. takes a little practise but shouldn't be too hard.

rear speakers do come up from time to time they fit in a cut out along the back panels above the parcel shelf if its a hatch. not too sure about the saloon. the speakers are pretty ropey in both flavours.

forgot. if its got the c3001 you'll need a fascia plate if you don't want gaps around a regular sized radio. i think theres a few on ebay. you may also need a wiring adapter for later radios.

thanks for that, ive got the vc608 thats proving a bit tricky to get out but im sure i'll manage it! i guess if i want rear speakers, i'll need to run the wire myself?

yeah, its not too tricky most of the panels to the back come up with a few screws or bolts. most irritating part is getting the wire up through the cut-out to attach to the speaker but with a little patience it works out.

vc-608 i found to be a fair exercise but it will eventually budge. you'll also have the right fascia plate for regular sized replacements and more-modern wiring. good luck finding a set of rear speakers.

You will need to file about a mm all round to fit a standard din in that facia, but it looks loads better than the aftermarket rubbish ones!

grr! ok, so i think ive mangled the sides!! It just wont budge though, where exactly is it secured? I just need to rip the radio out, but thats proving to be easier said than done! :s

the removal tools should slide in reasonable easily then try and jimmy it out using the tape deck as a fragile finger hold rocking it sideways and out. i find it quite hard to tell when the tools have gone in properly but once one side is free there'll be a little sideways movement showing its free'd up.
