Hi, ive been looking for a bolt on style filter, but all i can find are replacement filters to go inside the original air filter housing.

has anyone found a bolt on filter that can fit directly over the carb?

Do you just want the sound? - as there is no performance to be gained by bolting a filter on, and in fact it might make the car slower.

yeh i think it will just sound a bit nicer, will it have the same effect with the replacement internal filter?

there won't be any change in sound by replacing the filter in the airbox, the only reason the sound gets louder with a bolt-on is because when the throttle opens up you have a much more direct sound transmission path from the cylinder intake valves. If the stock air filter is nice and clean then I would leave it alone, but if you want a throatier sounding engine then by all means mod a bolt-on to fit or do something custom with the airbox.

hmm, i may just leave it. if its not going to make a noticable difference then ill just leave it stock.

for maximum sound you can modify the original filter housing.

this will negatively affect the built-in protection and temperature regulation of the filter.


one possible method would be to cut the plastic and metal top circular, just around the perimeter of the filter element.

you can retain the nut on top to clamp the remainder of the metal lid onto the element + filter housing.

the bottom side of the filter housing is quite particular for the CISAC carburettor and it also connects some hoses; so you probably want to keep that in any case.

My K&N sounds great (hear those worn rockers lol), but obviously bugger all for performance except for possilbly helping to stop the carb bolts coming loose like they always do with the 29kg steel pan standard arrangement. (Talking 1.4 there).
