Hi Rinter , welcome to the forum .I think its a matter of personal choice ,availability and whats best for where you live , I have a 1.7 petrol engine which has done 105,000 miles , is powerful enough for my needs and not to juicy, I drive on average 300 + miles a week mostly on the motorway, In the three months I have owned it I have done about 4000 miles and the only thing to go wrong so far is a loose connection on the rear indicator and the carb bolts coming lose both easy and free to put right .My other vehicle is a toyota lucida which is a grey import version of the Previa with a 2.2 turbo diesel engine. I have had this a year and it has already had a replacement engine at only 120,000 miles.
I have no experience of volvo diesel engines but have not heard anything bad about them.

the diesel 340 is horrably horrably slow. very slow. think of something slow, then think of something it could beat in a race. the diesel is slower than that. they didnt bring it into the uk for a good reason ;)

that's bad. personally I don't like carburetor, but if you say diesel is slower then bike..
and what about petrol vs diesel handling/repair?

handling is the same on either. i would suggest petrol repair is much easier over here, but thats because i wouldnt know where it would be possible to source parts from. where are you based?

Kiev, Ukraine. From what I've already dug around - diesel engine can be Renault or Volvo. Renault is cheaper to handle, at least here. Volvo 340 spare parts could be hard to find, but I liked 340 so I'm confused now :?
