Fuse Box

Hey guys just a quickie really, the fuse for the interior lights has blown(no 14 i believe). Any how i picked up a replacement fuse for it today which was 16 amp, which is what i was told to get but when i removed the old one it was 25 amp, so i tried replacing it with a 25 amp one which when i placed in blew straight away and gave me a nasty shock which was kinda embarrassing in the halfrauds car park lol. Should i have disconnected the battery before replacing the fuse??? or have i got some problems with to much power going through???

that sound like a straight shortcut...

did you have the ignition on when trying to place the fuse? that could explain the inductive kickback you got (normally, 12V does not give a shock in any way)

Nope ignition was off, what do you mean short cut?? I was thinking that something was wrong when a fuse which is usually 16amp blew a 25amp fuse lol, but im no good with electronics so i may be wrong.

I'd agree, you've got something short circuiting somewhere mate What were you fiddling with when it blew Only fuses I've ever blown are when I have been fiddling with something

short cut = direct connection from positive to ground.


if you got a shock, there was a 'inductive' voltage peak. this might be totally unrelated to the shortcut itself, however... sorry to have started about it

i wasn't really fiddling with anything just realized the other day that i had no interior lights or a cigarette lighter, so went to halfrauds and bagged a set and went to fit it, so i have no clue what could have caused it. Might have another go when its dry, disconnect the battery and see if it blows again.

That reminds me, I saw a product recall for blade fuses on the Halfords site the other day, so just a heads up if anyone's bought them for other cars

Check the power connections to your stereo

hmm i did fit a stereo recently, but im sure that the fuse had gone before i fitted it, what should i look for when looking at the cables.

Check they're all attached where they should be and that all bare wires are well wrapped in insulation tape

ok i haven't used insulation tape i used these connection things from halfrauds. ill have a look at it tomorrow and see if i get anywhere.
