Hey kids,

Just time for a Merry Christmas 'look what I've been up to' session.

First off, ghetto jacking technique #4...

Anyhoo....down to business....
You lot presumably all know what this thing is all about! You can probably guess what it can tell you from the buttons...Shame 'range' isn't there - all you'd need to know is the size of the tank.

It calculates the MPG from the distance travelled / road speed, and the fuel consumed. The fuel is measured using an amplifier box to buffer the signal from an injector.....or....a flow meter on carb versions. It's an either / or option, and luckily I have the carb version. Weirdly, a spare flow meter appeared on ebay the other week....how rare must they be?!

There's the flow meter....yes, that *is* a broquet device lurking beneath it (hangs head in shame)...

And the speed sensor...which is also fairly ghetto...two magnets on the diff output housing, and a sensor on a bracket.

Finally, here's the device fired up and ready to go!

There's about 5 hours gone into fitting that, mainly because I was going VERY slowly, as its my own car - I've done very little mechanical work on it myself, and I'd rather spare the time to get used to the 'feel' of it, and do it right.

Hmm.....15 MPG average so far....but I haven't calibrated the fuel flow sensor yet.

Man, you're not only the gauge guru! The DRIVING COMPUTER was incredibly expensive in the 80ies, you're a HERO sm95 :wink: Nobody here has that wonderful technology in a Volvo 300!

What about the speedometer, it's the same indication on your computer?

Yes, I calibrated the speed sensor (that one is easy!).

When I've fitted leather, AC, the R-Sport engine tuning kit, snow cover and the levelling suspension kit I've got lined up, I should have by far the most loaded 300 on the planet! Not that that's what I set out to achieve...honest! Who would believe it was TOTALLY standard 18 months ago?!

Ah yes, but you have the disadvantage of being in a country where you find bugger-all nice parts!

It's true, V3M has speeded up my interest, as well as created a certain rivalry....although only to a very limited extent. I'm certainly not covering my car in accessories to impress you guys...I'm planning to make my car fast to impress you guys. That's also why I'm in no hurry to make it fast....impressing people doesn't matter to me....probably why I drive a 300!

SNOW COVER , DID YOU REALLY SAY SNOWCOVER JAMES , where did you get that from , (I take it you mean the vent cover ) you kept that very quiet , Can your mate whos doing the front panels make copies ? i would certainly be up for one, it would look great with my bonnet stripes. (by the way your car is still missing the most important extra on the market, its about two feet long and an inch deep and sticks to your rear window )

I don't have the snow cover yet....but one day ;)

In fact....my towbar is so non-original that it's got a Ford badge on it :oops: Having said that, its probably coming off when I fit the bodykit, so no worries :)

No we had a gentlemans agreement, being as i found it 3 days before foggy, he let me buy it for the cheapest price possible.

As i wanted it for the 740, but alas it was the carb version, so i'll try and pick up a fuel injection version sometime soon.
