electric window faliure

my leccy windows failed on the way home - any thoguhts on how to fix?

Hi mate, have they both failed, or just one? Are they stuck open or not? On the 360's, it was nearly always the passenger side window that stopped working first in all the cars I've experienced it in. New motor is normally the best method from what I remember.

Not quite so bad if it's stuck shut, especially in this weather. May be worth checking the switch, but other than that a winder motor from a scrap car would be the route to try IMO.

If it's only one side, it's the motor, get a new one!

Definately sure it's the lectrics? Mine had the lil rubber bit in the metal channel jump ship, so jammed everything together, worth checking when you take the door card off.

took the door panel off - still doesnt work - so thats the lectrics right?

No, have a look to where the glass would go when it comes down, and both sides have a guiding channel that puts the window in the right place in the door. Have a good look and there should be rubber bits in these channels tht stop the window from getting scratched, it was these that had left the channel in mine, and being half in half out, were thicker than normal and jammed the glass in the channel.

Hope you have the window fixed by now but if not, I would be inclined to check the switch again by useing the one off the other side connected to the electrics of the stuck window, that would rule out the switch completly.
If it still does'nt work, can you hear a buzz from the motor when the switch is pressed? if so, it's not switch or electrics as power is getting to motor then something is stuck. If motor is not making a noise it is possibly the motor but don't go there yet, power may not be reaching the motor after the switch. Make a tester with a 12v bulb and 2 wires and check for power at motor and out of switch. BEST OF LUCK!

sorry for the delay in update..

its definatly the motor - i checked power was getting thru with a voltmeter, and then pulled the motor out of the cog mechanism and tested it. after 10 mins of spraying with wd40, it worked for 10 seconds, then got really fast, then died again. ho hum
