Hey guys im new to this so bear with me

Ive got a 1988E 360 glt 2.0 recently ive noticed while the engines running there is quite a loud knocking noise and especially when i turn the engine off, it sounds like its coming from near the bottom end but i cant see anything loose or out of place also i seem to have lost some power since the noise has started :( :( :(

Can anythin shine some light on the subject hopefully this wont be too much of a problem

Cheers guys :D

Bid end bearing of rod?

You have enough oil?

Have you used high octane fuel? These don't like running low octane.

Just few ideas that came to my mind.

Im hoping its not the big end bearing it has enough oil though

come to think of it i did use high octane fuel a while back an it did run alot smoother then maybe i should just use a fuel additive see if that helps :)

Should really run fine and quiet on unleaded. If its not, then it does suggest a prob somewhere.

Welcome to the forum by the way too. :D
Forum rule, Pics up when you get time....................................

and if its not a forum rule, then it should be,

its sounded fine till the other day wen i lost it drifting round a roundabout but dint hit it hard enough to damage anything that bad it does just sound like something loose at the bottom of the engine when i shut it off

Hopefully ill get on well here not like the VOC where i just got ignored most of the time 340pw

Knocking is easy to describe as sounding same if you would pour rough sand into metal bucket, rattling and it eases off when you ease throttle. How do I know? Me V8 seems not to be stock motor, it don't like from low octane fuel

Good to hear it is only exhaust, there are thin metal plates, four of them stacked over each other and they form middle section, ehm, thing that holds exhaust on place (forgot that word again), those are right behind that first silencer, in case if you have only two silencers.

The word you are searching for is "Heat Shield", Jani. Bad news about the big old station wagon :( - was looking forward to hearing about that beastie

Those four thin plates are under the car, they hold exhaust on place and are bolted into muffler from behind (in 360 at least).

STW is fine, just need to use high octane fuel, also replaced few service parts and it runs quite nicely now, clocked 0-60 to 10 seconds recently, pretty nice for 2ton car with 20 years of age?
