Reaction rod

What does the reaction rod(the one that links the rear axle to the chasey and it's on the right side of the car)do ?

It stops the leaf spring winding up when you accelerate.

Are you sure? Sorry if i am bothering you with this but i still don't understand. You say that it's a "barrier " in the back-to-front movement of the axle in aceleration. If so why isn't it located on both sides ? This is why i really don't understand, why only on the right side , what is so special about that side of the car. Thank you in advance .

Because Volvo are miserable and cost cutting :( It is an anti tramp bar as Dai say's, but as it only is fitted to one side of the car it's quite easy to make the opposite side tramp in the wet on a stock 1.7 engine.

Fitting another to the other side doesn't look difficult, but is something I've never got around to.

there is also more torque transmitted on that side
