Tempted to try and set some up on my 1.7?

Anyone tried it yet, not expecting amasing results but must make a difference?

Yea i will, im not after advice on doing it, just weather anyone has and what the results were and weather its worht doing....

whats the benefit of fitting webers or bike carbs on an engine? I just see it all the time but really don't know why it's done.

what would happen if r1 carbs would go on my 2.3l 16v instead of the standart stuff with all its nasty wireing?

Lots of extra power!
The factory stuff is a compromise to get reliability and economy. By fitting carbs you're just massively increasing the mass of fuel and air going in. Don't know about redblocks, but fitting weber 45s to a vauxhall C20XE will get you from 150hp to 180hp no problem.

no ecu needed as far as i understand.

"just" intake manifold, fuel pump, r1 carbs and thats it or whats going on here?
carbs put in air and fuel but whats with the dizzy? will be controled by what if the ecu is gone?

ok, spend some time on research and would def go for it if i find someone (in germany) to build an intake to fit the r1 carbs on.

they can feed 2l so 2.3l should be possible too with more drilling. some say they work better on little engines but as always, no one really testet to prove.

will bring nice sound an some extra punch!

but the one point that hold's me back is fuel consumption. i want to use the car as a daily driver.

and i strongly doubt that someone will be able to tell me how much the b234f will take on well setup bike carbs or even webers.

From all the people i know who have carbed engines there isnt a massive fuel consupsion issue if you drive carefully.
Obviously if you rag it its bye bye petrol lol but i know people with 1.4 16v injection to carbs have still scene around 25-30mpg which is about 5 or 10 less than standard

My mate ran them on his road rally mk1 escort, didn't get on with them apparently, total headache to set them up. That's what he said not me mind. I'd fancy a set, cheap too, in fact mega cheap power.

yeah you read about that kinda issues here and there but most of the time it seems to work.

someone who knows what hes doing when it comes to carbs and setting them up will come in handy in any case. basicly it should be foolproof but i will see for myself when bike carbs go on my engine in the near future.
