360 Engine swap options

I have been looking into swapping the engine in my 360 for somthing with a bit more kick,
I was told a 2.3 turbo lump would "drop straight in" but i am a bit unsure as what volvos they were in,
I have been offered a unknown engine out of a volvo 240 but i am a bit unsure as to weather its worth the effort i am assuming its the 155bhp B21ET
Any one got any ideas or a list of cars that had the mistical 2.3 that is a "straight swap"?

If you're looking at a 240 engine it wont be B21ET - that was never sold in the UK.
It could be either a 2.0 carb, 2.0 injection, 2.3 carb, 2.3 mechanical injection or 2.3 electronic fuel injection. The latter will be best but again only about 130bhp.
Theyre not an entirely straight swap, either. You'll need to swap over the 360 sump and water pump - and thats before you need to sort out custom fuel injection or using it from the donor car.

so what would be best to keep a eye out for? the guy i have looking out for a engine for me gets a lot of volvo's in.
I have been told so far to keep a eye out for a 940 or a 740 turbo as these are around 200bhp standerd.
Another 130bhp engine would be pointless unless it had a lot more torque than the b200e

nope, 155 or a bit more for the stock turbo's from the 700 and 900.
but 200 hp isn't a problem out of these engines. tons of info will be found here:

if 155 will do the job for you, the 16v might be worth to consider. will be more kind to your drive shaft, diff and what have you. if driven on a daily basis.

Bump.
The turbos make lots of torque...the peak horsepower figure doesn't reflect how fast they are on-road, in real non-drag race situations. Modern multi-valve engines have made us used to reading flattering peak BHP figures. A Civic Type R might make the same 200bhp you can extract from a B230 turbo with real ease, but if you've already pulled a couple of car lengths by having 200lbft of torque against 145lbft before it hits VTAK and revs into next week, who cares? They're a bit diesel-like in power delivery, as standard. Of course you can change that...
The closest matches are 2.3 engines from 240s, as they have the dizzy on the block like a 360. However, 7/900 series B230s will also fit with ease. You need to swap over the sump, oil pump and water pump. The bigger problem is making them go - carbs? injection (and if so, what)?, etc? The standard EFI won't cope...

couldnt i just take the ecu and fuel injection from the car i get the 2.3 from and just splice the car loom to the new ECU? (worked on the silvia lol)

Yeah you can take the ECU and wiring from the donor car.

Looking at getting this started this week if my 360 doesnt sell...
what will i need of the 240 just the engine, ecu, engine loom? anything else?
any engine codes i should look for or avoid? any other bits from a 240 worth having?

You want a wiring loom from an LH2.4 car...I suggest a 240, as it has the most 'detached' loom. It needs to be a late one (G or H onwards?) with either a B200F or B230F engine, as marked on the timing belt cover.
The rest (engine, ECUs, etc) wants to come from a 940 Turbo.

Right i know this isnt ideal but i have been offered a 240 2.3 engine (not sure on the code as i havent seen it yet) would this go in as easy as all the other options?
what else would i need from the 240? i am in a bit of a rush as i think i might have killed this engine (seemed to overheat today and seems down on power)

It totally depends on what it is. If it's a B230E, I would seek out the EFI gear from a 940, or late 2/740, and swap that on. If it's a late engine, it already has the right injection gear. You need the complete engine wiring loom. The engine bay side of it is fairly simple, but it does disappear into the car loom once it gets into the interior.
Basically, if it has the same inlet manifold style as the B200E...good. If it doesn't....not so good. I'd avoid going over to mechanical injection, myself.
