Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
Hi,
This product states B130 engine on the compatibility list.
http://www.123ignition.nl/id/44.html
So this would fit in my V66GL?

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
I don't know a lot about daf's. In 340's there are about 8 types of B14's. And about the same number of different electronic Ignitions. I would ask the question on the dafclub forum (www.dafclub.nl). There is enough knowledge around on that forum!

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
This is not B14. It's B130. As far I know there only one B130 used in these DAF/Volvos.

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
My guess is, it would. A B130 DAF 55 is mentioned in the list but as such a thing does not exist (officially at least), they probably mean 'DAF 66 1300 Marathon' and as that's the same as a Volvo 66 GL, you would be alright. The only problem is getting hold of the unit. I don't know for sure but IIRC 123ignition supplies to specialist garages, and they will install it on the basis that you get some kind of warranty when they do. I'd say, send them an e-mail with your questions. It will fit I'm sure, but the timing of the thing is preset to a limited array of vehicles and although I think there's no difference between a D66 1300 and a V66GL timingwise, I won't bet any money on it, so just ask. They'll also be able to tell you how and where to buy.Tero Huikko wrote:So this would fit in my V66GL?

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
I agree. B130 is B130. There are dip switches on the distributor and there is "DAF" mentioned with 6 degrees advance.
That's the same amount as in my service manual.
Now I have to find a dealer. (for the distributor)

If you can't find distributor, then there is one more source, 1963 TM, can't remember what exact issue, but there is guide how to make one and as it is from proper era it should also pass Museorekisteri inspection, but I know that you prefer genuine part
Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
Hello
Nice to hear from a volvo 66 owner.
Very interesting that 123 ignition are now offering the system for the B130. Very good news really. Only time till they offer the B14 series and replacement for the Renix???
With regards B130, that designation was only used by Volvo but indeed the 1.3 was fitted to the 55 and 66 models. I've got the vovlo 66 ignition map at home (B130 and B110) and I think I've got the Daf 55s too. alternatively, Im sure the Daf club of the Uk or Holland would have a copy. We can then compare the Volvo 66 map and Daf 55 map. I'm wondering if Volvo fitted different carbs to the B130 than Daf did or indeed if the Daf 55 and Daf 66 use different carbs. If so, the maps would be different. I've got a Volvo document too which details all the things they changed from the Daf 66 when the redesigned and relaunched it as the Volvo 66.
Alternatively, can 123igntion advise which map they used or car they based the map on??
I'll try to compare the two maps in the near future and post here.
Further, the Volvo 66/ Daf 66 Distributor caps are Ducellier and are interchangable. They come on on ebay quite a lot and are also the same as fitted to some Renault models. I've got some lists at home detailing various parts for the Volvo 66 and which car it shares these parts with.
I'll try to post that too for you
enjoy your 66!!!

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
see ebay item 310141782800 seems to be listing the 66 as the same as the 343/340. I think the 66 one is shorter/less tall that the 340 and the rotor arms are different. I'll check this on sunday and hope to update re the maps above too

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
Hi there
Did you order this product "The 123\RENAULT-4-R-V with upright cap for the Cleon engines" That lists it for the Daf 55 B130. Interesting they are using the Volvo name for the Daf 55 Marathon engine.
wouldnt mind clarifying if the 55 Maranthon and the volvo 66 used the same carb or ignition map.
I've done a visual comparison of the distributor caps on the volvo 66 verses the ealry 340 and late 340. Provisionally, the 66 and early 340 caps are the same. I'll try to do a better comparison when Im next around a 66 and early 343. Possibly next sunday.
keep us posted with results. Nice to hear the car passed the test!
do you have any pics you could upload!
enjoy your 66!

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
hi
It looks like the 55 had a 1.1 litre engine but then there was a higher compression 1.1 litre called the 55 Marathon. Seems the 55 never got a 1.3 litre engine
The 66 came with a 1.1 litre, then had a higher compression 1.1 litre in the 66 Marathon.
Then there was the 66 1300 Marathon which seems to have evolved into the Volvo 66 (1.3). There was also a Volvo 66 1.1, not sure if that is the 8:1 compression ratio or the 10:1.
Curious therefore that 123 ignition list the part as a Daf 55 Marathon B130. Thats a muddle of Daf and Volvo naming!!
I'll update when I have some more info

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
Yes I ordered this "The 123\RENAULT-4-R-V with upright cap for the Cleon engines" product.
I'm fairly certain that it will fit because B130 is similar to other engines specified compatible.
That "DAF 55" is most likely a typo that should say "DAF 66"...
In a week we all know...
Few new pics: (Huge in size...soorryy)

And this is the removed original Volvo 66GL B130 distributor:

Re: Pointless ignition (volvo 66)
hi there
WOW! Your 66 is beatiful! You've got GLS wheels on there too! Great that all parts for these can still be sourced via the Daf Club of Holland and that the Van Doorne family pay for the museum and support the club so much.
I'm going to try to scan the volvo booklet published in 1975 in which volvo detail all the component changes and amendments that they completed to change the Daf 66 into the Volvo 66. I've got some pics of some of the 66 development cars being crash tested. A Daf guy I used to learn with in London told me that Volvo amended the bodyshell of the 66 to make it into the Volvo 66. Various small changes.... Would you like me to email you a copy of the volvo booklet re changes in 1975.
Indeed a bit more research in the 55 reveals there never was a 1.3 version, rather the 55 Marathon was a higher compression 1.1. Only the Daf 66 Marathon 1300 got the 1.3 engine. So indeed, looks like 123ignition have a typo on their website. I suppose the Daf 66 1300 Marathon has the same carb setup etc so the ignition maps are the same.
I've got the Volvo 66 ignition maps if you would like copies of those too
Might even have the 66 Marathon ones so might be able to answer my own question! I'll try to post up what I find.....
enjoy your 66! looks stunning!!!!
PS Did you get a new front bumper to did you get yours resprayed??
