Heated Rear Window

I have an '89 360 GLT with a dead heated rear wndow.

I've checked the wiring, switch, and fuse. All appear okay.

Does anyone know where I can get a new one fitted without it costing an arm and a leg - I see potential problems as the window is bonded in?

Any constructive ideas taken onboard . . . .

Hi, welcome to the forum, I've not ever looked into having one replaced, however, as you say, it is bonded, and I know James (FoggyJames) sourced one from a scrapyard to get his rear screen working! Not an easy task, removal and refitting! There is a weak point in the wiring which is normally bodged on the bend next to the hinge, as it either gets shut in the join or broken due to the strains of opening and shutting. Have you checked for continuity in the wiring from the front of the car, by say the switch to the rear on the screen? The connectors can corrode and the rear screen could have a scratch in the etched part, the lines on the screen preventing a circuit. I've heard of people making temporary joins in these lines with metallic pens, solder, foil, etc. May be worth a try.

Mine was actually brand new! I haven't got it fitted yet for two reasons...

1) There is no voltage to the connectors at the back of the car, and I'm too lazy (ie: its too cold) for me to troubleshoot it.

2) I want to make sure the new screen definitely works before I fit it.

The cheapest way (once you know the screen itself is to blame) is to find a tailgate at a scrap yard, then take it back if the demister doesn't work.
