It is quite amusing how little world has actually changed in 100 years, with all technology that has came in last 100 years one would think that world would look lot different, but it really is just roads and few buildings more. Of course bigger cities have changed lot more, but small places are amazingly similar as they were 100 years ago, except back then there were less litter.

Indeed they are, photographer (Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky) did not only had incredible technique, but also he had eye to good photos. He was photographer of Tsar Nikolai II of Russia, how do you say, like government's own photographer, but back then it was more like a kingdom, maybe court photographer? :| I might miss a word here

Those have taken to glass negative size of 9x3 inches and three colour filters were used so it took 3 exposures to take one photo, 3-6 seconds each, you can see odd colour in some photos when something/someone has moved a bit.

There are few from Russian territory called Finland:

Only few years later there was a rebellion in Russia and there Finland managed to get independent.

I don't know what it says under the photos in first link, but click См. оригинал and then click left most colourful photo and you can see link to full size TIFF image above that photo (30-40MB). It is amazing quality and remember that colour film was invented some 40 years after those photos and it still was not even near same quality.
