Suspension and Shock Absorbers

Post by Black_360_GLT »

I am having real difficulty
finding uprated shock absorbers for the 360. -40mm lowering springs for the front is simple,
Spax, Pi and chassis dynamics make the -40mm lowering springs and the back can be
dropped easily, but where do you get shocks from?
I have tried Koni, Bilstien, Spax and a list of other makes and I cant find anywhere that does
uprated shock absorbers.
Someone must still make them sm38
kinds regards,
frustrated al

watch date mate

There are no new (really uprated) shocks available. Stock volvo shocks can be refilled with thick oil. Or you can buy some MONROE gas for example, but not really stiff.

I've found a new old-stock set koni's. But they are rare.

Try a search on the forum, as this point has been discussed al lot of times.

for the rear you can use landrover shocks.

these are the ones, and much stiffer than the volvo ones

a straight fit, and use the landrover bushes

I have one of only a couple sets of interesting "bodgery", they are bilstein monotubes from another volvo fitted into a 300 friendly casing. They seem to give a fair improvement on handling but I did fit them at the same time as polybushes and other refurbed suspension bits. I don't know how many sets dai got hold of or made though, as I got mine second hand.

There are a couple of problems with fitting just stiffer shocks to the rear. Firstly, you run the risk of damaging the standard mounting points (as they were never designed to take that load)....and secondly too much damping and not enough spring rate does not a happy rear end make.

Of course it probably improves the handling significantly, even so, and it's well worth doing in place of nothing at all...but...we really need to get our collective arses in gear and get some mk1/mk2 escort people to make us some nice retempered leaf springs.

cheers

£100/side is doable. I don't see we have many options, and it's cheaper than mucking about with adding on coilovers...and reinforcing the top mounts for the shocks.

cheers

Roughly a ton a side is a lot better than I was looking at, and multi and singles too. Hmmm, wonder if that is new or retempered old. If it gets done quickly, I'll be involved.
