SPARE PARTS - Where do you buy yours? (UK)

Hi all, one of the belts of my 340 1.4 is squealing like a bitch. I currently don't have a Haynes Manual.. I've heard that 1.4s don't have timing belts, but chains instead? I think it must be my alternator belt that is squealing.. ususally only when it gets wet or something.

Tried looking for a new belt to fit tonight, and GSFs website doesn't list one (only timing belts for 1.7s). Any idea where I could buy a new one from? How simple is the job to do, anything I need to look out for? Do I need to higher / lower the engine at all to gain access to the belt?

I'm also going to change the oil, what oil do you all find is best to use for dailying about and where do you get it from?

Thanks in advance!

Chris

Ah cool, I've never tried them before.. cheers for that!

Any ideas on engine oil to use? I use 10W/40 semi-synth in my polo and have loads of that, would that be any good? Also got some Morris oil left over from my beetle, any better?

What do you lot use?

10W40 works well.

Belt wise. any motorfactor will have one on the shelf its quite a universal belt if i remember. i think i have a new one in the shed, or at least the case from a new one Gates still make them at least

I forget how long they are, but they are long as drive the waterpump too.

Looked it up, somewhere around 10mm x 1238mm. Dead easy to do, just slacken the alternator bolts, etc. , etc.
