GLT alloys..

Post by Carl »

Surely someone can put them to good use?

If someone doesnt buy them I'll have to scrap them which would be a shame.

Also I have a Volvo 240 GLT master cylinder laying about if anyone can put that to some sort of use?

How bad is the damage on the sidewalls? I need a couple of tyres but I'm not sure if It'd be a good idea using tyres with damage :?

I wouldnt recommend using them (hence why the 2 good ones have gone on one of the other cars!). One has a large bulge and the other (possibly usable) one has a couple of small chunks taken out. Tread is brand new though, which is quite annoying!

haha.. by the way how did you rate them Uniroyals? I had decided on some Hankooks at a similar price, but still haven't ordered them yet..

They were excellent in terms of grip - especially in the wet. Completely transformed my (your) car from an unstable, twitchy, sideways car into a grippy, sticky, go-where-you-point-it-car! The only downside was the thin tyre walls, but that isnt a problem for your average driver. I've just put the decent 2 on my girlfriends MX5's rear wheels (130bhp RWD), and its done the same thing to the handling on that.

The next tyre I'm going to try is the Toyo Proxes T1-S (i think). They've got nice fat sidewalls and a menacing tread pattern that should work quite well I reckon.

The the past I've used Pirelli P6000s which are a good all-rounder in terms of grip, wet abilities, price and tyre life, but IMO you can find better (Uniroyal 550s for example).

Thanks for the advice! I really want something grippy in the wet, my rears are now fine on the alloys that I got.. but the front slides far too easily in the wet.. and understeer is not fun! I might try a couple of the Uniroyals then, I don't intend on doing anything that will ruin the sidewalls... although some light offroading last week was fun

Sorry for being slightly off topic.. hope you find a buyer :)

I have to admit, ruining the tyres was worth it, for the giggle value :)

No probs, glad to help. I want to know my old girl is still going strong! If I dont find a buyer I should be able to get £15 for them from a scrap metal guy, but that would be a shame!

I've been thinking about converting my 360 GLE into a GLT suspension. The only things that are different are the shocks and the springs and the alloys are 14' rather than 13'. Trouble is I'm not really ready at the moment. I'm in the middle of rebuilding my engine. (see post on 'big ends')

Pettaw, if yours is the 360GLE saloon I'm thinking about... it's injection right? If so.. I've heard its possible that GLEi's had the same suspension as GLTs!! From what I've gathered, theres not alot of difference between standard and GLT suspension anyway!

Its possible it has the same front springs, as the part number is the same in VADIS, but I'm almost certain the shocks and rear springs are different, and the alloys on mine are definitely 13', whereas the alloys on the GLTs were all 14'
