BRAKE SQUEAL

Post by Geez »

Hi fella s, got a real niggle with the front brakes on my 360. Its like this, they screech like crazy under light braking but there is no noise at all if Ineed to hit em hard and they work absolutely fine. There seems to be plenty of meat on em and the discs dont look scored and they are no where near as bad in the wet. It may well be something real simple but if it is its got me beat! Any ideas are well appreciated. sm40

I used to find that when I drove the car there was no squeek, but when my mum drove it it did squeek, so it's probably to do with technique.

The best way to stop the squeek is to spray on plenty of WD40, but I wouldn't advise it as it can seriously impare stopping distances :| Just joking about the WD40, DON'T DO IT! :)

The front pads have probably glazed over or there is dirt on them and on the disks. Take the pads off and give them a light sanding to clean off any dirt or glaze on them, and clean the disks at the same time by wiping with metholated spirits and allow to dry before putting back together.

If problem arises again in the near future, then it could be that the pads are to hard a compound so try and get a softer pair of pads or just clean them up again until it is time to replace them.

 no, They squeek for me now, I think I'm going a bit faster now and breaking a bit harder.

Come to think of it, they only squeek at the bottom of the hill by our house, perhaps that cleans the breaks so thy're fine for the rest of the journey

That wd 40 idea is great for the noise, but does make a bit of a mess of the bumper, bonnet, wings and stuff and insurance companies tend to be slightly dischuffed  Drive like a woman eh Mick, you wanna try it in these heels! LOL
