Re-Circulation

Post by Chris_C »

Can someone knowledgable send me in the right direction. Have stumbled across a recirculation system today, but it was on a B200K. Now I know the thing works of vacuum (as has been prooved by my lack of patience, and testing it all with me kite pump). Is it all good to use the same vacuum pipe as the econometer uses? or should I get it from somewhere else. The B200 had a brass giblet that went onto the manifold, should I put something like that on Kar? (Kar's a B14 btw)

Ta muchly

(ok, have now been informed that the GLT is actually a B200E, so I stand corrected ;) Twas a GLT it came from, injection and all that!)

Hi

I've worked on the vaccum system of the 1.4s quite a bit... but from memory I cant be sure where the pipe from the re-circulation valve goes to on the engine......( not too much help am I?? sorry! )

I have a idea....from memory

T piece on top of rocker cover...

one hose goes to the base of the carburretor....

other one goes to the air filter but there is a restriction in the hose.... if the original hose is still there the restriction is built in... if it has been replaced the hose with be a normal hollow hose but there will be a cut in it somewhere and a small black ( later models it was red ) plastic insert which acts as the restriction....

on some models this restriction has a extra pipe coming off it which goes to the recirculation system

if the system fails to work at all.. the valve might have gone... its is a large cylinder about 3 inches long located near the heater box under the bonnet..... has two thin pipes going to it.....

If only I had a 340 here to look at!!! ( mine is at home.... )

what seems to be the problem? Isnt it working at all??

one clue is when you release the re-circulation ( ie switch it off ) after it has been running a while, you should hear a small hissing from the air vent as the pressure equalises...

keep us posted with what you find and ask again if you need more help!!

hello again....

I was a bit unclear with your posting... are you trying to repair the re-circulation system or are you trying to install it from scratch in a 340 or 360??

That pipe you mention with the restriction is what I've got my Econometer hooked up too, and where I was thinking of putting a T-piece for the re-circ pipe.

I'm putting the system in from scratch!!! Cheers for the confirmation mate.

(BTW, I know when me and James were playing around, the Econ didn't work one side of the restriction...makes sense I guess, so I'll put the re-circ on the same side as the Econ.)

Right, got the flap and the piston in today... I thought the blanking plate would just be clipped in.. but no, it's one moulded piece! Anyway, a sharp tap and all is well.

Plumbing to do tomorrow.. will keep you updated

Sorry mate, forgot I didn't update! It went in a few days ago, was really easy, working first go. Heats Kar up quicker, not sure what else it'll do... maybe if I find a 1.4 A/C setup!!

Anyone ever need a B200E tapped vacuum giblet (for an Econ or Re-circ system, I know I spoke to Pete about it last night, it's still here mate, and open to anyone else). If you don't know what I define as a tapped vacuum giblet, its a threaded tube, goes into the intake manifold, and give you a vacuum source.

It must be something about vacuum, the recirc flap is nearly as fun to play with as the Econometer!

dont think such a thing as a 1.4 aircon exists.. could be bodged though..

i might need that tappet off you. out of interest, what are you using (apart from bits stolen from nessy) to split the vacum tubing?

I have the T-piece that was on Nessy on the vacuum pipe between the head and the carb base for the econ, then I put another T-piece on the econ pipe for the re-circ

1.4 AC does indeed exist...at least accoring to VADI$. I'm suspicious it was an option on very early cars.

cheers
