F7R Running(hot) Temperature

My Williams lump seems to be running hotter than it normally does. I have changed the thermostat and if anything that may have made it worse. The fan does not seem to make any difference. (I bypassed the fan switch to make sure).
Im not ruling it out but there does not seem to be any signs of Head gasket failure.
The oil and coolant are both fresh. Oil runs at about 90c
Any ideas?
And what sort of scale does the gauge use?
(current running temp)

Gauge position looks normal to me for a fully upto temp engine but other cars sit lower - depends on the stat. How quick is the temp coming up? Have you flushed teh system through with clean water?

You reckon Dai? Not sure about 340's but my 360's all sat right under to slightly to the right of the LED

The stat is a new lower rating. 82c if i remember correctly. yeap the system has been completely flushed.

If you are now on a 82 then that is high.
other than the temp gauge does anything else apear different with the engine?

The F7R's also seem to be designed a lot more with FWD in mind on the cooling system, mine runs between a third and half a gauge when running, about 30minutes colder with the heater on. Only in traffic will the needle creep past vertical and teh fan should kick in at the end of the LED still

it never used to run this warm, my F7P used to run at just below Half and this F7R used to run just above half. no idea why its started running warm.
I may try changing the radiator before going to the effort of doing the head gasket. and do a compression test before hand.

It's worth taking the old rad out and putting it under a hosepipe. When mine went it took ages for the water to flow from one side tank to the other, it should be instant.

Well i have spent the morning playing with the car. I have removed the rad gave it a good flush.
Checked the new thermostat does actually work (it does)
and flushed the coolant again.
and a compression test shows all 4 cylinders within 6 PSI of each other.
the temparture has come down a little but im still not entirly happy with it.
Only thing i havent replaced is the temp sender (its currently less that 12 months old) due to them no longer being available at your local motorfactors.

Out of interest mate do you have a 37mm thick rad or 52mm thick rad? That made a massive difference on my car.

I have the opposite problem. My needle sits a mirror image of your towards the cold end. so i just never rag it till it's warmed up, but it does however rise when sitting in stationary traffic, until the fan kicks in and cools it down again.

I have had exactly that at one point. the collant temp sender was faulty.
