Volvo 343 arrives in Motown

The Volvo 343 from California & ebay has arrived.

Just as the truck was picking up the car, the sellers agent called with a sob story. The car needs a starter button.

I complain about the news and the timing, as my check has already been deposited. The agent then negotiated $675 US from the purchase price.

I got the car for $1,000 US + $800 US in shipping. The microswitch in the shift button is dead. Once warm, we start in Drive or Reverse with a button.

The car clunks a little bit from the right rear, on initial engagement and the owner sent along some clutch plate to flywheel shims.

Aesthetically, physically and cosmetically the car is everything I hoped it would be.

With my right foot in cast, I'm taking this adventure slowly.

Keith

Well done, keep us updated with your progress!

I had a similar problem with the microswitch on my car, ended up swapping the whole gear selector over, see this post:

Here's the 1959 Standard Microbus. Got it running after it sat for 25+ years on an island in Lake Erie.

Here's a part which you might be interested in:
wiper blades for the '76 - '78 headlamp wipers 3269271

The earliest headlamp wiping system is totally unique, there's nothing from the later types which can be swapped over. So it might be an idea to start hoarding parts, when they turn up.

The seller has some other Mk1 stuff for sale (lights, decals) but IIRC she spoke only Dutch so you might like to get one of the DAF chaps to help you with the lingo if you're interested ;-)
