how do you find out what rego leter your car is?

i have hurd people saying things like G reg or F reg, what dose it mean and how do i find out about mine?

the year of registration should be on whatever th Oz equivelent of a Log book?

its a 4 door mk2 so must be 1983 (A Reg) or later? I think.
So 1984 = B reg
1985 = C reg,
1986 = D reg etc etc.

Im probably wrong though.

Thats just based on the UK way of registering a car, each letter would denominate a year the vehicle was made, but it could fall into the following year i.e mine is a G reg which is 89 but could have been sold in 90, the reg's used to be bought out once a year therefore it could fall into two years.

However a while back the Goverment bought in a change twice a year to try and boost car sales, can't see how that works myself though as it just makes your "newer" car older quicker if that makes any sense?

Its more 'Great Britain' than the 'UK', we don't use year letters in N.Ireland and find it just as annoying as other non-GB residents when you guys talk about D reg and so on.

Not the end of the world of course, but would be clearer if people referred to years not random letters.

Incidentally I had reg FXI 360 for a while until the family member I gave it to (lent the reg until my own 360 was back on the road) got it destroyed by joyriders. Waited too long, didn't understand the N.Ireland transfer/holding system and lost it when the MOT expired, car was written off.
