dump valve in a diesel
dump valve in a diesel
how do you fit a dump value on a renault 19 td ??
Re: dump valve in a diesel
You don't, at least I don't see what use it would be as there is no throttle butterfly, intake is fully open all the time, rpm is controlled by fueling only, that is at least case with almost every diesel.cam340 wrote:how do you fit a dump value on a renault 19 td ??
Dump valve is only use when throttle butterfly is closed rapidly and there is sudden build up in pressure, so dump valve dumps it to atmosphere (typically), now when you don't have throttle butterfly you don't have sudden buildup of pressure and even if you install dump valve it does not do anything at all.
That is at least how I understand the thing.
Re: dump valve in a diesel
Some diesel trucks have a dump valve don't they... Century class type things?
This could need some research but I'm sure it's been done before on a car.
Some serious modification is required though.

there are special dumpvalves for diesel cars; but the very factory that makes them recommends you don't use it all the time..
on turbo diesel trucks you hear the wastegate shatter sounding a bit similar to a dumpvalve, same is heard on cars but that's more quiet. a few weeks ago i drove a DA13 powered (13litres 440bhp volvo engine) Terberg FM3000 out of the factory without the exhaust pipe connecting the engine-brake with the damper since that was backorder; basically the pipe just behind the engine brake was all the exhaust it had.. drove the thing full throttle around the terrain (loud as hell!!) and when you instantly get off the throttle you definatly hear a WOOOSH
the dieseldumpvalve makes the same type of noise but works in a different way; as Jani says there is no butterfly so there isn't any vacuum developing when you release the throttle wich was the engineering problem to overcome since you can't control the dumpvalve. they solved that by remote-operating the dumpvalve via a switch at the throttle pedal. a control unit monitors the position and operation on the throttle pedal and uses it to control the dumpvalve

Re: dump valve in a diesel
Only situations where it would be needed are if rpm drops a lot, like full rpm to idle in an instant and quite often, or if one has huge turbo, in other situations there will not be notable pressure buildup and no need for valve. If one prefers to get that sound, then get one of these for guaranteed chav factor:
