They're for the 4-door saloon, but I'm sure the 3/5 door version won't be much different. Bosal (Tobo) is the OE manufacturer for V300 tow bars (well, for my late version at least).

The bottom right hand panel used to be part of a Daf door, the LH light surround repair panel originally came from Mac, many thanks again to him at this point.

I've known the bit around the light cluster was coming, but I had no idea about the rest Maybe that was caused by water coming in through the rust holes and slowly eating its way free.

I'm afraid to say I did none of the work in those pics People posting pics like this usually write "hey, look at the work I've just done" and are rightly proud, unfortunately all of this was done by someone else - the same chap who saved both my 343 and the GLT from certain MOT failures.

i found that on a 360 i had, the lights seals were leaking, letting water through then rust out the lower panel.

That sounds likely too. I'll put some additional silicone sealant around the lights when they've been refitted ...

Whatever you use, don't use sanitary silicone or similiar! Sanitary silicone and similiar silicone products contain acetic acid (reason why silicone sealants smell like vinegar) and eventually it'll cause the metal under to rust even faster.

Some of the previous owners had used sanitary silicone to seal the leaking windshield and in those places where there was silicone, metal was also rusted badly. I've seen this on multiple cases when people have fixed leaks on their car with sanitary silicone, metal will just rust faster in those spots because of the acetic acid.

Use some automotive sealant product instead, like non-permanent/non-drying windshield sealant or similiar.

Nice job with the repairs. That's quite common place for 300-series to rust, hidden behind rerar bumper.

How about some gasket stuff?


When one let's that dry it is soft, kind of rubber like and will not go hard even at -30C.

tiger seal is ideal good stuff

Then you are lucky dude! Finding someone thats able to do that to the standard we want isn't easy anymore, and that looks a really nice job. Glad you've got it done, though I bet not as much as you are!

Yeah, I'm really chuffed. The poor car has had so much bad welding done to it in the past that it's great to see it getting some TLC. Rainer really takes his time, and fixes things I didn't even ask him to do. When I got the car back, some scratches had been painted over, he'd replace the drivers' door hinge pins, and said he'd take a look at the leaking diff when he had a bit more time.

Anyway, here're some pics of the finished product:



note he didn't paint the number plate panel black again, I think it looks quite nice that way! The rear bumper is brand new, it'd been kicking around a Born factory workers' attic for 20 years. The chrome strip is new too.



I've ordered a bike carrier from Thule - for 3 bikes, extendable to 4 so there should be no more of this - note how crappy the old bumper looks there.

I'm loving my new tow bar, I wish now I'd fitted one years ago - the car drives so much better with the bikes on the back than on the roof.
