'Chrome' gutter trims, front & rear screen trims

Post by L14MNP »

Impossible to get these days?

My '84 GLS has faded front and rear screen surround trim things and the same deal on the gutter strips with the added 'bonus' that the O/S one is missing about 8" at the bottom.

They let the car down. This makes me sad. :(

I was thinking of going for black gutter trims but they wen't look right IMO.

Soooo, anyone got anything they wanna part with?

Cheers, Liam.

Try find a Mk1 breaking (I know... but they do come up!) as they had proper chrome trim rather than plastic coated chrome foil of the later cars  The former does not fade/crack etc! Gutter trims should be the same, unsure about the windscreen and rear windows as the rubber varied over the years

Mines remarkably good... dont know how, cos most of the time it goes crappy! If you look close there's some slight discoloration etc but good overall

I'm in the same boat regards the gutters. Mine look okay, bar a couple of depressions either side where a roof rack has been many moons ago. So if they are like busses and several turn up at once, then bear me in mind.

Plastikote chrome effect never looks chrome.

Don't tell anyone, but that's what I sprayed the dash of Kar with, for some reason I wanted a chrome dashboard. I think I was lucky it came out silver and not reflective looking back on it.

And I moan about the ricer's we sometimes get on here now

LOL awesome! Sounds very Mexican mate. Pics?

I have used that stuff before to repaint the inside of some fog lamps and it was kinda chromey, not the best but I wouldn't say silver. I get what you're saying though, it aint the way to go!

TBF mate it's not so bad. I assumed you meant the actual dash top, not the inserts! lol

You're right though, silver as! Muchos cool gauges too 8) What's the joystick deal and the chap in place of the ash tray (looks to be Volvo)?

Ben, didn't you just post up a pic of blacked out rear lights and a debadged boot

Gauges are Porsche 928, I've never liked the fact that the "OEM" 300 extra gauges had the needle that goes through the pivot rather than into it (as they were just the 200 series gauges, they weren't redesigned for us)

Joystick... erm, not sure what you've seen there, likely the silver fag lighter? Never used as I don't smoke but it matched the dash. The switch in the ash tray controls the trip computer in the pocket infront of the gearstick, all out of a 480T. That panel in the dashboard also has an RAC traffic master jobbie built into it with optical fibres bringing the LED's through to the surface so it all looks built in and you can't see the device.

This is what happens when you want to fiddle with cars but your insurance won't let you play with engines  Adam's car was equally rice when he joined here, I love the progression of where our priorities change.

Black lights, black pedals, black gearknob = cool.
Silver gearknob, silver pedals, silver dash = not so much.

I would also like to point out that the info centre was another one of Chris (TM) fabled projects, and thus is incomplete
