I bought a back box for my 1.4 from Eurocarparts, despite using supplying a number plate the exhaust that came was wrong. It is roughly the right shape but isn't an exact match for the 1.4 back box. Most notably the pipe is of a considerably larger diameter.
Did the 1.4 and 1.7 340s have different back boxes?
The stickers on it say "VO 142W 340 GL GLE SAL" and "340 GL, GLE SAL 1.7 85-91".
Also did the saloons have different back boxes to the hatchbacks?
Any help in identifying it would be greatly appreciated.
I forgot about it and it is now too late to return it to Eurocarparts so I'm open to offers regardless of what it is!
Possibly a 1.7 back box?

Re: Possibly a 1.7 back box?
I'd go by the bottom-most label and say it's a 1.7 back box. Looks like it's been mis-labelled along the way. Bosal site has different part numbers for the rear silencer on a 1.4 / 1.7. (No difference between saloon or hatchback.)
If you can go back to EuroCarParts in person, shove it up the guy's pipe.
I would have thought someone would have answered by now. Either they're down the pub or watching Eurovision. Or both.
edit:
Alex, I've looked up the Klarius online catalogue (must admit, never heard of them before) and it's two different part numbers.
1.4 is VO71G

1.7 is VO142W

Funny now I'm getting a "must be viewed in Internet Explorer" error page. Two seconds ago it was working hunky dory in Firefox.

Re: Possibly a 1.7 back box?
Ah good detective work there! Annoyingly Eurocarparts insisted that I posted it back within 8 days (which I didn't get round to) and in the original packaging at my expense. This doesn't seem too bad until you see the comically oversized box they sent it in, which probably wouldn't fit in the car and would cost a fortune to post back.
Open to offers then will put it on ebay in a bit, need it gone really.

I thought the saloon had a slightly longer pipe from the box?

Demand they take it back at their expense. After all, their fuckup
Sale of goods and all that. Credit card or some debit cards - contact card co to do a chargeback if the retailer isn't playing ball.
consumerdirect.gov.uk or CAB
It really isn't on supplying the wrong stuff. You asked for a 1.4 backbox, they supplied the wrong one. A big FAIL for them. You shouldn't be out of pocket because some chimp can't read the label. 7 days is for distance selling regs, "reasonable time" is sales of goods act.

If they still don't get their fingers out and make right, I'll send Matt and Dan round on the bike.

YOU sold ME a part that "WAS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE", the "8 days and you're out" is your policy, not mine.
I go off the law!, you're getting this backbox back!, and you're either FULLY reimbursing me or giving me the correct part!
Have a nice day!

Now on ebay
I'm not going to try and pursue Eurocarparts over it as to be fair it has been a month or so and the last thing I want is to end up with another back box (which I've already replaced) to clutter the garage up!
