rear wiper / front fogs

found I had a proper front fog light switch in the shed so have decided to use it with a set of aftermarket lights , just a couple of questions,
firstly is it right that front fogs can only be used with dipped headlights ( ie not with side lights or main beam )
also I noticed at the bottom of the switch is a space for a bulb holder, is this to illuminate the switch or should it be wired to let you know the front fogs are on (there is no warning light on the dash like the one for the rear fogs )
the reason I ask is because there is a similar space at the bottom of the rear wiper switch but again there is no buld holder or wiring so I presume it is for illuminating the switch
has anyone got an illuminated rear wiper switch or was the switch robbed from another car and was never lit in the 300
surely if I run a wire from the bulb feed to the clock to one side of these bulb holders and then taking a wire back to the clocks earth they will light up when I put the lights on ?
but do I need a seperate warning light for the front fogs when there on ?

The foglights are wired by default to come on when the sidelights 'or more' are on.

Regarding the illumination, I added bulb holders (they're removable) from spare switches to the existing switches, and wired them up. They're two pin holders - +12v and ground.

The foglight bulb holder is a special one though - it uses a one-pin holder (that pin being for ground), with the +12v feed being made live internally when the switch is switched on, giving indication of whether or not the foglights are on!

so do's that mean the light in the foglight switch is not on at all unless the foglights are on or is it one of those that is lit but gets brighter when switched on

The light in the foglight switch is not on at all when the foglights aren't working...

just finished wiring up the switches so that both light up with sidelights , have decided to put a front fog light warning light somewhere on the dash as you never look down at the switches on the console (hold on , why did I bother lighting them up then ?

)

Often thought that mate, about a little light on the dash, maybe time for a bit of wiring and a new logo in the warning lights panel! However my new driving lights switch, even though they work from the main beam, will require some thinking about placement.

So you want to be able to 'disconnect' the driving lights from normal main beam operation?

It's not really important, but something I want to do. Basically as you say, have the option to turn the driving lights off and leave main beam on. It will help me in my before and after comparison too, as I can easily compare stock 300 lights to the extra driving lights. Also there are some pretty highly reflective signs on some bad bends near me, and I think with main beam and driving lights I'm going to get some bad reflective dazzle. Turning off main beam and driving lights by dipping the main beam is a bit drastic now, so it'd be good to see where I'm going still through those bends. Something to do when I get time! One day.........
